Re: Bouncing problem

Are you burying the beater as a matter of choice or is that your one and only method of playing? If the latter, you may want to learn how to unbury the beater which will essentially eliminate the...

Re: You and your practice regimen, come clean

Try to get in about 2 hours daily. Due to having a new baby and a wife who can't stand the sound of drums (imagine that!) my practice routine is essentially composed of practice pad + dw practice pad...

Re: New product idea again

hmmm. As a cape-wearing enthusiast, my MO when ambulating has always been to deploy a gentle traipse, particularly when displaying capes that are compsed of a more delicate weaving or textile.

Re: Bitter Ginger Baker slating Zeppelin and Bonham - again

Yup - there is something wrong with you. :)

Any of his jazz solo stuff provides a very convincing argument as to why he is one of the legends.

Heck, even the link that Odd-Arne posted above...

Re: Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Yeah, I have always wondered about this myself. Especially in the context of jazz where the soloists are trading bars with one another, the lack of musical accompaniment for drum solos is really...

Re: Who are some tasteful gospel drummers?

What are we defining as gospel drummers? I'm not seeing much of a consistent style here;really this seems to be about guys that look similar, play a relatively busy style and are slotted as Gospel,...

What's Your Signature Fill?

Realizing that a drum "fill" is a bit of a four letter word around here (ha!), I think we all have that one drum fill we strategically keep in our back pocket until we let loose and totally wow and...

Re: Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Personally I felt the drum solo was highly original with lots of dynamics. I had no issue with the length of the solo and would gladly sit through another 20 minutes of a master like Simon exploring...

Re: Bass drum technique

Guys like Porcaro and Colaiuta buried the beater so you certainly can have a successful studio career and play that way. But those were obviously top shelf players and I think are exceptions to the...

Re: Bass drum technique

I would second that. Learning how to unbury the beater is key to controlling rebound and reducing those little mishits. Equipment choices may help to refine your sound but I don't think they can...

Re: Question for You Open-handed Drummers

Thanks and yes I know this is kind of a "good" problem to have.

That being said, it kind of irritates me that my better hand is in fact slower. But really, I crap out at speeds I don't really use...

Re: Question for You Open-handed Drummers

Correct I play like Billy Cobham or Will Kennedy (hats on the same side as ride). I do lead with my lead hand on occasion (maybe 10% of the time) on the right side of the kit.

Question for You Open-handed Drummers

So I started fully playing open-handed a few years back (weak hand leading on hi-hats and ride) to even out my hands and have unobstructed access to the kit at all times.

Well, I am now at the...

What Drum Moments Give You the Chills

Thought it would be fun to share those timeless drum moments that you listen to time and time again that still give you the chills. Maybe we'll get some ideas of new stuff to listen to:

- ZZ Top...

2) DW practice pad kit

Re: The drummers who just go for it

Couldn't agree more. The Lars thread which has been active in recent days is particularly shameful. That's a pile-on of epic proportions.

Re: Alex Acuna

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not religious, so I can't say I have any knowledge of religious-based music, but I am always keen to try new things and will give that a listen.

Saw this guy at a clinic yesterday and was truly blown away by his musicality, chops, and all-around passion for music.

Seriously, he is a walking rhythm machine. He was playing on all manner of...

Re: Thoughts On Phil Collins??

That's a bit harsh. The "old carmugeon [sic]" has managed to do an awful lot of good in recent years too (donating his extensive personal Alamo collection to the state of Texas, work with his Little...

Re: Thoughts On Phil Collins??

Just stumbled on his drum track for that Live Aid song. Man, his toms sound massive. Apparently, this was a first take (the final album cut was the second take I believe). I could listen to this...

Re: Poll: Buddy Rich

You can't put something like that out there and not back it up.

And when did open-mindedness define musical greatness?

Another jazz great, Louis Armstrong, had an intense dislike of bebop -...
