Re: What's your latest purchase?

Nice going Bill, I have a 22, it's the best cymbal I own.

Some cheap cymbals from online. Some believe they're wuhan.

Re: My physical issues and my drumming

Not really my point but I knew it would be taken that way.

I just think if your only dynamic is FF and your only tempo is 150+ then there's a whole other side to drumming you can enjoy without...

Re: My physical issues and my drumming

I have never heard you play but I have read a few of your threads and my bat-senses tell me you're just into progressive and speed stuff, and that you probably have long hair and wear a trench coat...

Re: My physical issues and my drumming

Maybe you could get over the whole 'I'm so fast!' metal thing and get into some styles that rely on other strengths.

Re: The origin of the term "Gospel Chops"

I never hear Chris play in the pocket.. I think Chris plays on the beat with such precision that I almost don't notice his playing, or it flies under my radar or something, it's weird. He's very...

Re: human drummers and fractals

Thanks for posting, but I gotta point out that Jeff porcaro sounds like a drum machine.. Probably one of the worst people they could use for their case study!

Re: How do I know if I will stick with drums? Advice please.

I used to play piano and trumpet, I discovered drums at 13. I was obsessed with drums immediately and wanted to play after school everyday, I was watching drum videos (vhs videos) compulsively.

Re: anyone own or tried the DW concrete snare?

Same experience here it was very dry. Being as heavy as it is, it be one of the last snares I would want to purchase.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I thought 12" snares were stupid until recently but I sold one with my little nesting kit and realized how cool they are, even as primary snares.

Found this on facebook for $200 with a hard case!

Re: Bid like a man!

No, bid like a coward and save $$$$.

It's the people that bid on an item leading up to the auction that bump the price up, usually to market value. No one gets it cheap when that happens.

Re: A dumb customer?

What a dumb idiot. Buying that drum kit and then changing his mind. I played the same kit for 40 years. Heads and tuning. You're a good tuner.

Re: Let down by a drummer with chops but no ability

You lost me at Joey (jordison) but I saw this happen once at a bar in Sydney...

Drummer setup, was playing all these awesome solos... band came in... the guy was pathetic.

It's the classic case...

Re: What method of drum video critiquing do you go by?

Generally brand of shoes, number of cameras (more is better) and then the brand of equipment.

Re: Profesional Attitude

I could see myself getting annoyed if some other drummer wanted to take the throne at one of my gigs. That happened to me once and I was ok with it but I didn't really enjoy losing playing time or...

Re: HELP! I need a good inexpensive snare fast!

Man, your used market is so awesome in the states.

I think I might start hunting craigslist.

Re: 18" bass drum for rock!

Don't ask for anyone's opinion!

My little 18x16 acrylic is a weapon, it also helps if you lay into it though. Not sure how your gretsch sounds but I would just keep it, the rock band shouldn't be...

Re: How to get better snare sound ?

It's the G2.

Put a g1 or an ambassador on it. Then it won't be dry enough lol

Re: How to stop playing slightly ahead of the beat?

Have you done much slow click practice?

E.g 30 - 40 bpm

If you just play the simplest beat (kick snare kick snare) with quarter notes on the hat you will have room to experiment.

You could...

Re: Personality Influences Playing

There are solos that are just noisy meanderings but if you can't appreciate a nice groove based solo for example I wonder how enthusiastic you really are about drumming. I play a solo everyday and I...

Re: Playing covers vs. playing originals... or both?

I agree with your bro.

I play covers and have only been at it for just a year. I think it's a fantastic experience, big learning curve and just about the best way to earn a bit of pocket money. I...

Re: Fast Shuffle Technique

I'm not a very fast guy either but this can be achieved with a bit of technique. What I do is drop the stick for the first note and pick it up for the accent. My wrist is higher for the first note...

Re: Gary Chester's Drum Setup

I can't say I liked the sound of his kit on his video... the toms didn't really lend themselves to the percussive nature of what he was teaching. Tuned too high and ringy.

Re: replacing absolute birch with performer b/b.. Bad idea?

It would be sad to let that yamaha go but I have played the MIJ birch/bubinga and it is a kit I wouldn't mind owning.

Is it in your budget to go and buy the tama, keep them both for a while then...

Re: Shallow toms - 20x16" Bass 8 10 12 14FT - Advice

If the price is right I would definitely look at cutting them down. No need to cut the 10 down, just cut the rack toms down to 8, and cut the bass drum down to 14. But I know you're probably going to...

Re: Drums are so personal, a bad kit tale

Can't you just be happy that you got there and there was a kit setup for you?
