Re: Gurus played hard!

They sound real good. If I was playing them they wouldn't sound so good. You mentioned not getting credit. I think that type of thing goes on a lot. That's too bad. They are worth listing big time....

Re: NDD Take 2 Yamaha Again.... YD9000 this time.

Oh wow! That's a nice kit. I've always liked the natural wood hoops on the kicks. I think I would like to have a set like that. I remember drooling over their catalogs back then. I've got 2 Yamaha...

Re: Yamaha Drums

[QUOTE=Duck Tape;1350366]Guys, what are birch custom absolutes like?

I have BCAN 2009 model I think. I've not owned any RC's, but I can tell you that I like the BCAN's. They have good attack,...

Re: Ludwig Snare Find....worth anything?

That shell looks like a quality shell from yesteryear, and the lugs are Ludwig. The throw off and badge look suspicious. I bet it's still worth 50 though.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

That's s good looking Ludwig kit. I haven't seen blue sparkle in a while. The blue is a much brighter, or something than the old blue sparkle, from the 70's. Very pretty.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

But the day before I was lucky to find someone had these gems for sale. I couldn't pass up the deal:

Yamaha Recording Custom - Piano Black

8x12
14x14
16x16
16x20 (not pictured)

gig...

Re: New Acrolite!

Very cool. That's pretty darned vintage. I had a 70's model in the 80's. I wish I'd kept it. I've been kind of thinking about getting another.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I picked up this used 16" A the other day. It reminds me of a 16 Med thin that I had for more than 20 yr. I think that's why I bought it. It doesn't sound fantastic or anything, but it's so familiar...

Re: 8 years of professional teaching - time to give it away

I've always played totally lefty. Started in late 1969. I would be dismayed at any teacher that would not accommodate a left handed player. That in itself is totally unprofessional. It only takes a...

Re: Snare Drum Comparison, Observations

I'm glad to hear that you like the Yamaha Musashi. I've been pondering getting one of those. For some reason I think I'd like it, even though I've never heard one before. I think I'd like the 13"...

Re: Last piece of gear you forgot?

[QUOTE=Zickos;1338016]At one time or another I have probably forgotten every thing except the shell pack. This includes sticks, bass pedal, cymbals, hi hat clutch, music, I can't remember what else...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Man that kit looks pretty sweet. I've never heard the clubs in person, but I bet I'd like them. I think that's the best finish I've seen on those kits. Really nice.

Re: What's on your bass drum reso head?

This head is on my Tour Customs (88 model). I did it myself, I was very pleased how it turned out. It's obvious to me, but some people don't see Jesus with a crown of thorns, and some blood drops,...

Re: Gretsch Round Badge video

Those drums sound pretty darn good, but I think I'd be jammin on those RC's that are sitting there.

Re: What Metaphors Do You Use in Your Playing?

I like that analogy. It sounds pretty true to life. The only one that comes to mind for me is "we are in the drivers seat" We drive the band or the song, we control it's speed, steer it in the right...

Re: Shell Tap Tone

I recorded the tone of my 2 rack toms without heads and hoops. I did have the lugs still intact. When I played it back to tune my toms to that pitch, I was already tuning them to that pitch, at least...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

I agree with axis in that you're playing a lot faster then 120 in your video. I think maybe you're not counting BPM's correctly.

Re: Drummers you thought sucked,but...

I thought John Bonham didn't know how to play the drums right, when Black Dog came out. I was only about twelve then, so I didn't have much sense. Come to think about it, I still don't have much...

Bo, that cracked me up. I'm with the others here. I can't tell any difference between wrap, and lacquer.

Re: Jazz and Matched Grip

I'm glad you posted about this, as I've wondered the same. I've played matched for 40+ yr. Every now and then I'll hold the sticks traditional, and man it just feels so weird. I don't Jazz but I've...

Re: What will it take for me to be able to do this?

[QUOTE=toddbishop;1330766]That's not right. He's playing "French" grip with a couple of things on the cowbells, but the busy stuff on the drums is a ~normal snare drum grip. The only place I'm seeing...

Re: What will it take for me to be able to do this?

His right hand is pretty clear on camera. Looks like finger to me too.
