Re: Detuning the lugs around the snare bed

I've gone back and forth with this issue. Detuning the snare bed tension rods should lessen the occurrence of "sympathetic snare response", the buzz of the snare when you strike a tom or bass. ...

Again, I think you would be very pleased. It's a quality instrument at a great price. Let us know what you end up doing.

Re: Ludwig Classic Birch?

I play a Ludwig Classic Birch kit. I ordered new in early 2007. I like everything about them. The sound, the look, and the value. I think you would be pleased with them. Are you considering new...

I admire you ingenuity and ability to think outside the box. Thanks for sharing your idea with us. There's also something to be said for having the character to concede to another way of doing...

Re: My New Gear

Congratulations on the "New Gear". How are you setting up? Is your tom stand a single or double mount? Premier, they're made in England aren't they?

Re: Ludwig Classic Birch Pics

If it were me ordering a Classic Birch kit today I would go with the Ivory finish. I think it has a clean, classic look that you won't get tired of. Take a look at this video, you may not like the...

Re: 8 x 12 Tom vs. 10 x 12

I was pretty satisfied with the 22" until you asked. There you go again, getting me thinking about more gear. Seriously, I like my 22". Do you have a 22" in any of your kits?

Thanks for...

Will the Ludwigs go to? I was just looking at your Franken Kit... you've got some stuff.

Re: 8 x 12 Tom vs. 10 x 12

Your set up looks good. You have your toms on a stand? What would you estimate the drop in terms of inches from the lowest point on the rim of your 13" tom to the batter head of your snare?

Re: 8 x 12 Tom vs. 10 x 12

I really believe this will be a win, win deal. Better positioning and sound. Thanks for your insight. It's on order!

Re: 8 x 12 Tom vs. 10 x 12

Back WHEN you had your Ludwig Fab Four kit I remember commenting about how I liked the way the 8 x 12 tom looked over the bass, and have been thinking about it since. I'm not big on mounting toms to...

Re: 8 x 12 Tom vs. 10 x 12

The ergonomic benefit is really what I'm after. Your point about moving less air to the resonant head makes sense. I'm sold, I'm going to order one.

Thanks for your response.

Re: 8 x 12 Tom vs. 10 x 12

I have the 10 x 12 in a bass mount over a 22" kick. In moving from the snare to the tom it's quite a jump, it feels awkward. I can't tell from your avatar, what is the size of your tom that is...

8 x 12 Tom vs. 10 x 12

I'm considering replacing my 10 x 12 mounted tom with an 8 x 12. What should I expect in the difference of the sound? Will it be that noticeable?

Re: Should I order some Ludwigs?

Absolutely! Ludwig is making a comeback. They're building a quality product. Several big name drummers are playing Ludwig, Matt Sorum, Tre' Cool, and Alex Van Halen to name a few. I play a...

Re: Converting 2 Up, 1 Down to 1 Up 2 Down

I have a 10" tom that I sometimes suspend from a cymbal stand on the left side up top next to the mounted 12". It looks fine. The Ludwig clamp with an L arm was about $30. Try suspending your 13"...

Re: Converting 2 Up, 1 Down to 1 Up 2 Down

I think it's a worthwhile venture. You will probably need to suspend your 13" tom from a cymbal stand, I'm assuming your 16" is a floor tom. I play 1 up 2 down, I really like it.

Re: Matt Sorum

It's the Baby Boomers. We're wanting to relive our formative Rock years of the 60's & 70's. Ludwig was big part of that era.

Re: Is playing crossed a bad thing?

I prefer to play open. I'm sure it's a matter of coordination but I find that when playing crossed my snare hits seem to be off center affecting the depth of the snare response. I also think...

I notice that Bernhard updated...
