Re: First use of a click

Not according to Wikipedia, which quotes from Geoffrey Emerick, the engineer on the track:

The tapping "has been incorrectly identified as a metronome in the past", according to engineer Geoff...

Re: Staining drum heads with coffee

GRUNTERSDAD may be correct, I don't know. However, I do know that in older times, tea was actually used for lots of dyeing. Probably a bit easier than coffee, you wouldn't have a bunch of loose...

Re: A family member wants to learn jazz. Recommendations?

I have a clarinet. I haven't played it in a while, but I've been meaning to get back to it. I played alto and bass clarinet in high school. It's an awesome instrument, good-size pitch range and...

Re: A family member wants to learn jazz. Recommendations?

I have a love/hate relationship with the Ken Burns doc. It is clearly the largest, most ambitious, longest, most thorough piece ever devoted to jazz. However, although I did say "most thorough",...

Re: Call and response audience participation

If you want really raunchy, check 2 Live Crew "As Nasty as They Wanna Be", lots of 'colorful' call and response on that album.

"Boom Boom Out Go the...

Re: Do you hear sounds or mechanics when you play?

Same story: I play an e-kit, and I swear I have different 'abilities' and things feel different when different sounds are loaded.

Re: Would you notice quantized drumming in a video?

Actually it is MUCH easier to do with an e-kit. Just record MIDI and you can move any single note anywhere, perfectly and individually. Also, the DAW will probably have a single "Quantize" button...

Re: Tips on drum rooms?

FYI, know that most residential cloth and foam products (upholstery, curtains, pillows, etc.) that are "fire-resistant" are really only geared to withstand a smoldering cigaret. An actual flame or...

Re: Just a G.A.S. observation

I'm kind of the same with guitars. About ten years ago, I had a lot of money, and I bought some really really nice guitars. I love them, but now I have this crazy sort of melancholy that I can't find...

Re: I don't know whether to take this tour or not

I think it was Mark Twain who said this:
Johnson says "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel ", but I suggest it is the first.

Re: Can you sit comfortably at an E-kit?

I have the DTX 562, which for purposes of this discussion, is essentially the same thing. Have you tried 'opening' the left and right sections a bit more? The center two rack posts/legs are...

Re: Laptop/backing cutting out live

^^Some good ideas in any case.

Is it the same song that always has this problem? Maybe the audio file is corrupted. Can you get a new copy of it?

Re: Drums and allergies

I have found my people!

Kurz, you have my sympathy. I have managed to escape food allergies, except for a few mild reactions. My next-door neighbor when I was a kid was allergic to chocolate,...

Re: Michael Beinhorn fires drummers.

Only if the founder sold enough of the company to let others have control. For which, they were probably well-paid. Then, it is not really "his own" company.

Re: What’s an affordable, decent option when it comes to a drum recording interface for filming vide

I think you mean XLR inputs, and it is 2, 4 or 8. I have the the one with 8. There are many competitors, but the nice thing about the Presonus is that it comes with their Presonus Studio One Artist...

Re: Maybe this is where the term "Kick" drum came from
