For me the advantages are that I feel comfortable, I can come come up with unique patterns etc. Plus it looks cool I think.

Disadvantages for me are that I like spashes near my hats, as opposed to...

I think Bubinga has the best sound for drums but it is an incredibly difficult wood to build drums out of though.

I have recently picked up my 1st high end snare. Its a Black Panther Hammered Brass 5.5"x14".
The sound is awesome, the diecast hoops really give it that crack, I can't wait to see what it sounds...

Of course you can earn a living, I mean there are session musicians out there that make a living from playing full time. If thats what you want to do, then you can.

I can play left handed and right. I learnt on a right handed kit but am left handed. Im pretty ambidextrous so I taught myself how to play crossed over as well.
