Cutting Hi-hat rod... Advice?

I'm an open handed drummer so I put my hi hat very low and there's a lot of extra rod as a result. It gets in the way when switching to my ride, snare, toms... etc

What should I use to cut it?...

I tried that and I thought I had it and even though I was counting it right as I played it I couldn't feel the quarter note pulse.



I'm gonna try the foot tapping on the quarter pulse tomorrow....

They're all pretty much the same.

You'll probably want to change all the drum heads as soon as you get them. I hear people say all the time that the drum head gives about 80% of the overall sound....
