Re: A maze of odd metres...

That's a cool track. Pretty mental. I could be wrong but I've put below what I reckon it is just in case anyone feels like a play along.

The opening groove is a bit crazy but I think it's in 4...

Re: Do You Work? Enough Time To Practice?

Hey,

I often wonder how I'd find the time to practice if I had a "real" job. I'm fortunate that drumming is my profession.

However , I spend the majority of my days teaching and at least 3...

Re: ME PLAYING 2

Hi,

I think one of the reasons we drummers come here is to seek advice at all stages of our development no matter how good or bad we are at that particular time. That is all that Atlanta rules is...

Re: Steve Smith and Vital Information

Yeah,

He had a black sonor sq2 kit in his normal setup but he had 2 piccolo snares to the left hand side of his hi-hat along with some electronics. Nothing much different with the cymbals.

Steve Smith and Vital Information

Hey all,

Just got back from playing at Ronnie Scotts in London this evening. Steve Smith and Vital Information were headlining and I managed to take a short video of their soundcheck. It's a bit...

Re: Most you've paid for a lesson?

Hey, I work as a drum teacher and i charge 25 an hour. That works out at around $50. That's standard Musicians Union rates, some charge more, some charge less. I'm not sure about big name drummers...

Re: The secret techinique no one wants to talk about!

I think it helps if you play with musicians on a regular basis. once a band gets to know each other they soon work out how they will play a peice of improvisational music. for example how long a solo...

Re: problems with my left hand

I'd say open handed would be the way to go. I'd check out Carter Beauford for some ideas. Also just play singles with your left hand to a click. I tend to do this about half an hour a day with a...

Re: the sticks are flying

Make sure you are holding the sticks correctly and tight enough. Set your kit up so that you are happy with it and stick with that set up. This will ensure you know where all the drums and cymbals...

Re: playing Open AND crossed

A perfect example of the options available when you can switch between the two is Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band). His grooves flow between his hats and his ride and i think his open handed...

Re: How do you know when you have good timing?

A good way of doing that is to play along with a click and then stop it and play without it for a while and then turn it back on and see if your still in time. Also for practice with estimating...

Re: How do you know when you have good timing?

It all depends on the musical situation. I've done gigs in the past at larger venues with a female solo singer. All her music had been written out and the whole rhythm section played to the click....

There is a Victor Wooten track on his album "Ying Yang" called "Zynergy"!.......It's in 5/8 featuring Carter Beauford (DMB). It's quite a tough one as he regularly ignores the bar line but the track...
