Re: You love the idea of it, but you are never happy with it (Drum gear)

The cajon.

It's just a box.

It will never sound like a drum set.

Re: You love the idea of it, but you are never happy with it (Drum gear)

That's too bad. I hope you can hook up with some folks who care. They are few and far between though.

The worst part of dealing with musicians is that they are musicians.

Re: You love the idea of it, but you are never happy with it (Drum gear)

When it comes to guitars, chasing tone is a never-ending proposition. I've seen it with just about every other guitar player I've ever played with. One of my weaknesses is figuring out whether a...

You love the idea of it, but you are never happy with it (Drum gear)

I'm sure we've all gone through this, but here are a couple of examples.

Our bass player talked about getting an upright bass for YEARS (we play Americana music). Well, he finally dropped the...

Re: Putting down the sticks/brushes for a while

Reminds of this tired joke:

Rock guitarists play 4 chords for thousands of people.

Jazz guitarists play thousands of chords for about 4 people.

Re: Rack Toms Angled or Flat

It always looks like they are trying out drum kits they found on Craigslist without adjusting anything.

I swear you used to be able to buy these in a pack:

Re: My 14x4 Piccolo Snare Shell

Sure thing. BumWrap is a good product for the price (a 14" x 4" would be $26.99). They don't do sparkles, but they can do just about anything else you want. It's not a heavy Delmar type of wrap,...

Re: Yamaha AMH 22x18 to 20x16

I enjoy carrying my 20x20 kick in a bag MUCH more than my 22 x 18 in a hard case.

There is a difference between a 20 and a 22; however, there's A LOT more difference (to my ears anyways) between...

Re: Hoops

I think that the dollar-to-sound ratio probably isn't worth the cost. Looks is another thing entirely.

If you like the look and the vibe, go for it.

Re: Ludwig Centennial Zep kit information

I've had my Centennials for a year or two, and I really like them. I would love to possibly get the kick cut from a 20" x 20" to a 20" x 14", but I'm too afraid that I wouldn't like it. They sound...

Re: Which Tama kit should I buy?

Definitely go with the Star Classic line. While I'm a fan of maple shells, I've heard great things about the B/B kits.

I have Tama Rockstar from the 1990s. I used to think they sounded great....

Re: BD mounted rack tom hardware

I've not been able to comfortably mount rack toms on the kick in years. Mine are all on separate stands now.

I use these:

Re: Great Deal On Mapex Armory

They've been on sale for a while. Great kits for the money! Love those edges.

Drum Dial.

Used once, maybe twice.

The thing you bought but you never use

I've kicked around the idea of buying a Yamaha Club Jordan Cocktail kit. I've been fascinated by cocktail kits since the early 90s. I like the idea of a cocktail kit, but I'm afraid that I would...

Re: But's it fun!

I do too.

I mean, if the OP doesn't mind paying for money for the experience of fixing up an old drum, then do it.

However, if he is doing this as a money-saving venture, then I possibly...

Re: Should I buy this 28" kick drum?

I'd pass for $100 because you are going to end up putting more than that into it if you want to fix it up:

Drum heads (about $50 each, give or take)
Spurs ($50 give or take)
Hardware for missing...

Re: Do 3/4 and 6/8 ‘flow’ better for you?

I think playing a ton a lot of songs in 6/8 can seem more repetitive than their 4/4 counterparts to my ears.

However, 6/8 is a real treat to play. I love all of the ghost notes in between if the...

Re: Booted out of band, advice needed

There have been phases in my life where I've had to sell and then re-buy gear. I'm thankful that I (hopefully) don't ever have to do that again. I would to feed my family, but I'm thinking it may...

Re: Ever have a fear of selling your drums?

There's really nothing to worry about.

You are in a big city. You shouldn't have a problem selling locally as long as the price is right. I would only put on Reverb or EvilBay as a last resort....

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

Yes, I'd much rather turn them down and stay on track as opposed to listen to him/her in my head and try to play "against" it.

They've been asked for years to sing on beat.
Some have gotten...

Re: Is it acceptable to audition for multiple groups/bands?

I have the absolute right to waste anyone's time, I mean, there's no law against it. However, it's a really, really douche-y thing to do.

There's no way to know this. If you ask, they will...
