Re: Interesting Observation Regarding Drum Quality and Sound Preferences

Iíve only heard that when it comes to vintage ludwigs the quality is inconsistent. Sometimes youíll get a really great sounding drum and sometimes itíll be less than perfect

Re: Native American Snare Drum

Very cool links. I'm surprised more people don't draw inspiration from older ancestral drumming. Drums have definitely been a huge part of human history and we should really study this kind of stuff...

Re: best walnut snare?

Never played any of these, but I heard Brady makes a really high quality walnut snare

But you can't go wrong with craviotto or noble and cooley. And a snare from any of these companies will either...

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

I hope another company comes out with something similar to the ead10. But I guess Yamaha is the only company that makes both electric and acoustic drums so I don't know if any other company is...

Re: Do You Think...

Wow that's pretty cool information I didn't realize that. It makes you think how record sales are being kept track of today. So many people use applications like Apple Music or Spotify instead...

Re: Cool historical photograph-drumkit

That's the most incredible thing I've ever seen on this forum. Whatever happened to that kit? Did you ever get a chance to hear it?

Re: Do You Think...

Yea it depends on what your culture is and where you live too. In Texas artist like Selena and George Strait will be remembered 100 years from now. And in Louisiana zydeco artist like Clifton Chenier...

Re: Do You Think...

Michael Jackson probably passed Led Zeppelin I'd imagine, and really the only band that I think would pass him in a cult following would be the Beatles, and MAYBE elvis. He's got the #1 selling album...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

That's very inciteful and a very good point. When I was playing a lot of jazz in college I loved Mitchell and how much he used improvisation and played to the songs. And now that I'm much more into...

Re: Arthritis in Foot - Looking for Kick Drum Alternatives

Yea I think brentcn is spot on by saying your left foot will have to be your bass foot. Maybe a similar setup like drummerca35 has would work. I've seen some remote hi hat pedals that use a sort of...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

Interesting, I heard a story where Miles was released by Jimi's manager after a bad gig the manager sabatoged because he didn't like Miles? But I don't think anyone knows for sure, a lot of Jimi's...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

I hear guitarist debate the experience vs band of gypsys all the time

A lot of them say jimi was at his best with band of gypsys, and some would even say he was able to play at a higher level...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

You know the saying "you're either a Elvis guy or a Beatles guy"?

Well in the drumming world, you're either a Mitch Mitchell/ Experience guy or a Buddy Miles/ Gypsys guy. You can love both of...

Re: Arthritis in Foot - Looking for Kick Drum Alternatives

I'm sure most of everyone on here has seen this video already

https://youtu.be/-R6S7QMIH28

They really do need to make an alternative way to play the kick drum. I just recently had a hiking...

Re: First time with drum wraps questions

I'm just thinking, I wonder where drum companies source their wraps from. I mean I doubt they make their own right?

I have heard great things about precision and jammin, I'll probably be...

Re: My Studio Kit

Top of the line zildjian cymbals and a maple pdp kit? Hell yea I'd jam on that kit

I'd sell the Ludwig jazz festival and maybe get a pearl Jupiter snare or Ludwig acrolite. Both of those are...

First time with drum wraps questions

I'm wondering where I can find drum wraps that are the same or near identical to the ones used by DW and Ludwig etc. Like maybe a mod orange that Ludwig uses or emerald onyx that DW uses? I'd hate to...

Re: How to organise a musical collective

That sounds like what's called "musicians unions" here in the US. I don't live in a big city and I've never been a part of one, so I don't even know if they still exist, but basically that's what...

Re: Anderson .Paak: Tints (Live) - SNL

Saw this on tv it was pretty good, I'm glad he stayed on the drums for his SNL performance because sometimes in concert he'll have someone else drum while he sings. He's actually got pretty good...

Re: Best Period of Yamaha Recording Customs?

I know right, I'm about to get me a pair of those shoes now. I don't know, I spend so long trying to tune my 16" floor tom why would I want to detune it purposefully?

Re: Best Period of Yamaha Recording Customs?

I have seen a kit with high tension lugs dated in 79, so I guess it's older than that. A lot of collectors really like those different style lugs and think they look nicer. Kind of more like a...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Good info and great points, but let me ask this. We've got a lot of great drummers on this site, but let's talk about a more realistic scenario

99.9999% of us aren't going to play with a Taylor...
