Re: Do your doubles sound like singles?

Okay, so the gist I get is, if you're not Vinnie or Joe Morello, it probably won't happen for you :-P

That actually makes me feel a little better!

Do your doubles sound like singles?

Just curious, because I've read/heard many times that played correctly doubles should sound like equally fast singles. But in my experience, particularly on practice pads, it just seems an impossible...

Re: Getting back into drumming

This is not intended to sound snarky, but I'm curious why you would start playing again if you don't have a drive to?

Have you tried playing and don't feel into it? Or are you just worried you...

Coming back to drums after two years

A few things I realized:

- I lost a lot of hand technique (doubles, etc) but I'm surprised that I managed to keep as much balance/coordination as I did. Guess it really is like riding a bike.
-...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

Yeah, definitely. And I don't hang out with kids except the younger people at work, who never seem to talk about music (just movies, TV shows, and games). I would just imagine if the 'instrument...

Re: Is this statement about 'hired guns' kinda true or not..?

I'm entirely out of touch, on purpose - I don't watch TV, don't listen to the radio, and stopped reading most Internet sites/Facebook, for my own mental health - so maybe I'm 100% wrong about this....

Re: Ever think about how coll it would be to replace in-store pianists with in-store drummers?

Nobody puts baby in the corner.

But yeah, in my experience very, very few people can make drums sound like something you want to listen to unaccompanied. Even they can only do so for a limited...

Re: Ever think about how coll it would be to replace in-store pianists with in-store drummers?

Hate to say it, but unaccompanied drums sound awful to everyone but the person playing them. Unaccompanied piano sounds amazing.

Live near Florida? Trade a snare for my Ludwig MWP?

Some of you may recall the 'contest' that Uncle Larry ran a while back giving away some Black Beauty snares. My life story was so sad that he decided to send me a full classic Ludwig Marine White...

Re: Charlie Watts ,does he Swing.??,or doesn 't so well..!?.

There are guys who play guitar with their feet and it sounds amazing. So, stiff or not, who cares. Jazz musicians want to play with him, good for him.

Let it go. Maybe you or some drummer you like...

Re: Ed. Thigpen.

I think the extreme angle and low grip is for volume control. But I'm just guessing.

Re: Weezer plays Rosanna..

I honestly didn't mean it to be mean or to come across all high and mighty. The drummer is way closer to getting it than I'll ever be. But Porcaro's groove is Porcaro's groove, I've never heard...

Re: Weezer plays Rosanna..

For some reason it just sounds to me like the drummer is struggling to squeeze all the beats into the bar.

Re: Drum room door question

Definitely will do, I've been building this place for ages and we're finally nearing the end of construction. Can't wait to bang on my drums and not disturb people!

Re: Drum room door question

Hmm, I think either I'm making something out of nothing or I'm not explaining well enough. Maybe a drawing would help.

If you look at the attached drawing, that's how it looks if you face my drum...

Re: Drum room door question

I haven't hung the doors yet or built the inner frame, I just have the outer concrete shell with a hole for ventilation and a door ... hole.

But ... I thought the outer door was to be the heavy...

Drum room door question

I mentioned before that I am building an underground drum room. Most of it is finished and I'm trying to get to the details.

Having gone through a lot of online documentation I know the best...

Re: Is SONOR it pronounced Sone-er or Sonar?

Well you could take your SONOR to Sonora County, along with your son or a daughter.

I might even say sayonara.

Re: Rest in Peace Roy Burns

Yep, I remember my first year of drumming I bought an Aquarian drum head and it had a wrinkle. I called Aquarian all full of myself expecting an argument and Roy Burns himself talked to me, explained...

Re: Jeff Porcaro drum solo, what?

Interesting, particularly since someone just posted that Neil Peart interview where he claimed Ringo wasn't a "real drummer" because he didn't like soloing ...

I also like the YouTube comment...

Re: Andy Newmark

I was just listening to Roger Waters' "The Pros and Cons of Hitch-Hiking" and learned that Andy Newmark was the drummer. Really tasteful playing all the way through, he really nails Waters'...

Re: Jimmy Chamberlin

Goodness me. I've stumbled into an Internet tough guy convention.

Personally, the little bitch in me is just irritated that it's cam audio. The mic keeps getting overwhelmed.

Re: 300 BPM? Really guys?

I don't play particularly fast - maybe 270 after a lot of warming up - but speed is sometimes an issue. I played with a jazz band and all they wanted to do was play fast. And I would say over and...

Re: Soundproofing my cave

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I'm scared of the air question, both because I don't want to die and because it seems somewhat unwinnable.

As I kind of described, the room is basically 5x5 meters....

Soundproofing my cave

So I finally paid for the first installment of "the dream" - a soundproof drum room. Now I have to finish it, and I could use some help.

My property is on a grade and I leveled it with fill. So it...
