Re: A re-statement of the obvious

Agreed, this is a great place.

I don't visit nearly as often as I used to but "Audiokarma" was an equally civil and helpful place once upon a time. Wouldn't surprise me if many DW members have...

Re: Yamaha Nouveau Lugs - Tuning Tips Needed

Thanks for the tips, guys.

The Stage Customs are up and... well, it just isn't the same. That said, they tuned up like champs. In fact they were hardly off even though they've been sitting unused...

Re: Yamaha Nouveau Lugs - Tuning Tips Needed

I've tried the Evans torque key and the Evans magnetic key with the thumb knob but neither managed to mitigate the problem. I get the lugs feeling evenly tensioned but fine tuning with the Tune-Bot...

Re: Yamaha Nouveau Lugs - Tuning Tips Needed

It's official - I detest these hook lugs!

I must have removed and reseated these drums heads 100 times and I still haven't found a straightforward way of tuning them. Wrinkles, no wrinkles, torque...

Re: Great deal on new Yamaha kit recording customs.

Nice! Snap some pictures when you can.

What snare will you be using? If money is tight, the new (2017 and newer) Stage Custom steel snares are surprisingly good.

Re: Middle tom doesn't resonate

I'm watching this thread with great interest.

I gigged my BCAN for the first time last night and ran into this very issue. The 12" tom was mounted separately from the kick drum yet was choked and...

Re: Curious about tuning to actual notes

The Tune-Bot makes it easy to tune to notes. By extension, tuning to specific intervals is simple, too.

My kit is tuned to (lowest to highest note) 2D, 2F#,2A# and 3D, currently. I'm constantly...

Re: I wonder if Neil Peart will ever play again?

My hunch is that Neil has at least one kit setup at home and probably two.

My other hunch: we'll see Neil play a little jazz/big band one day. I just cannot imagine someone as immensely talented...

Re: Old Dog New Cans

Welcome back to drumming!

As you will have read here dozens or even hundreds of times; head selection and tuning are everything. Your dDrums will probably sound great with the G2s. You can save a...

Re: Yamaha Stage Custom Birch

Agreed. That version of the Stage Custom is great. Philippine Mahogany inside and a layer of Birch outside for appearance. Tuned properly, these sounds scary close to the best kits out there.

I...

Re: Merry Christmas!

Beautiful kit, Bo!

The ergonomics look spot-on to me. Everything within easy reach.

Merry Christmas indeed!

Re: Review - Yamaha Tour Custom

Great review!

I think you're onto something with the Emperor heads. I use Ambassadors on my rack toms and Emperors on the floor toms and I slightly prefer the Emperors. I'll bet the Vintage...

Re: My first "Pro" kit. Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute Nouveau!

Thanks, trick!

They really came alive this weekend when I re-tuned them to accommodate the 14". They weren't nearly as tricky to tune as they were before so I guess that the new heads have finally...

Re: My first "Pro" kit. Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute Nouveau!

I have settled on a 2-up, 2-down configuration for now. The dual floor toms are like thunder!

I'm in love with how good the kit sounds and how well it plays. Added a shockingly good Stage Custom...

Re: What's The Best Metal Snare Drum Under $200? - Video

I picked up the new SS1465 a couple of days ago and slapped an Evans Power Centre reverse dot on it. I cannot get over how good that thing sounds, especially at high tuning. It's my go-to snare from...

Re: My first "Pro" kit. Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute Nouveau!

I'm looking for a nice deep 'dooom' sound but I think my little 10' x 10' studio is limiting my kit in so many ways. It just doesn't get to breathe in there. My Zildjian Ks sound waaay better in big...

Re: My first "Pro" kit. Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute Nouveau!

I went the opposite direction and outfitted the kit with coated Ambassadors which work, but I'm dying to try the pinstripes so that will happen soon enough. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks! I've...

Re: "too Busy"

I think it's mostly true.

Whenever I hear a cover band deviating from the original recording I assume that they're either a) unable to play it as written and in need of more practice or b) not...

Re: Learning heel up

Same here. Articulate double hits are exceedingly difficult for me using heel down technique.

I'm learning the Doobie's "Listen to the Music" for one of my bands and getting the kick drum right...

Thanks, Mike. I hope it's not long before you find what you're looking for!

I'll always love my Stage Customs but I'm in complete agreement with you. The BCANs are remarkable in so many ways....

Re: My first "Pro" kit. Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute Nouveau!

A quick update.

I didn't dig the sound I was getting with the clear G2's so I tried something different and slapped a set of coated Ambassadors on the rack toms and a coated Emperor on the 16"...
