Re: A re-statement of the obvious

Re: Struggles of Short Drummer and 5-Piece with Offset Toms

Dragonfly 66, you're making things too complicated, I think. I don't see the use of a specific pedal (the vector). When you play concert, backline kit you don't have the time to adjust everything,...

Re: Struggles of Short Drummer and 5-Piece with Offset Toms

Yes, my toms are as high and angled as if they were on a bass mount. The tom Tripod is as close as it can be to the bass drum. My snare and Hihat are at the exact same position as if I was playing...

Re: Struggles of Short Drummer and 5-Piece with Offset Toms

I very often play with tom on a separate stand, I've done so since the 90's. I have to disagree with you assertion ; it doesn't push the hihat farther at all.
At least as long as you use a twin...

Re: Double bass setup?

Think of Ginger Baker. 2 different sizes. Still I don't think he used that much the left one. In White room you can hear them. We hear they're not the same, but the effect is fine.

Re: time keeping/ guitarists

I like the music you posted !
It's not as bad as you mentioned, but you're very low in the mix.
Playing to a click for everyone can be a pain to organise.
What I would do : LiveBPM App. on an...

Re: Double bass setup?

If you want to blast, play ostinatos, you should have two identical BD, if you seek different sounds to have one dry BD for soft songs for instance, you may try a different size.

Re: Yamaha Nouveau Lugs - Tuning Tips Needed

My old Premier has a kind of brake system built-in - making the rods almost impossible to turn by hand after a few turns. It's supposed to prevent detuning.
But like you, it made me lost all my...

Re: Different, unique, or just wacky set-ups

Re: Different, unique, or just wacky set-ups

Isn't there some kind of snobish vibe using a kit no one would ever want (be able) to share ?

Re: Zoom Q2N (Camera) questions.

I own a Q2n ;
Nice product, I like it. The video quality is very relative to the lighting, you can get washed colours or strange light effect. Still, the quality is sufficient though.
The sound...

Re: Considering these three kits. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you're not already leaning toward one specific kit from this selection, be specific :
Available sizes and depth
Wood
Finish, colours available
Available add on and snare
Basic configuration...

At last : basic kits without a 22x18 ! Yesssss.

Re: Returning Drummer Aches.

32 is young to feel those pains playing drum.
Elbow tendinitis, OK. But what you explain looks more like a body too stiff, a bad stool and bad posture.
Better stool, relax, warm up before...

Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

Almost day one - 25 years ago I traded a cymbal stand for a 20" UFIP China. It's paper thin, the sound is great, powerful and dark, it's the best China I came to play - perfect !
This cymbals was...

Re: Hey Joe: Great drumming or overplaying?

Exactly:
On the contrary each time I hear this song played by - what I call - a lazy drummer (doing the basic) I feel the song is flat and lacks of life and power.

Re: Rogers Holiday restoration - looking for advice

What a great job you've done !
The cool thing is that you play the kit and its original hardware !
How's the sound ?
The snare is one of the best vintage snare drum, can't go wrong with it, but...

Re: Tama SLP G-Bubinga Kits

About the hinged tom mount, I don't know what you think. Most of the time, Tama hardware is well made and well studied. But in that case, I'm in doubt : about the efficiency for resonance and about...

Re: Tama SLP G-Bubinga Kits

There is a basic tom suspension on the SLP line.

It looks as if there's nothing but the tom mount is hinged which should allow a bit of movement.
As for the size, I would be happy if the draw...

Re: Band names?

Green sabbath sounds fine though ;-)

The choice of a band name is essential (easy to remember, easy to spell, easy to google)
It's fine not to do like the others (a standard mounting of a name...
