Re: New Gretsch Catalina Club 2014 Finishes

Apparently at Thomann.de the "studio" configuration (20" bass drum) will have a 14" inch deep bass drum! And the "rock" is 24x14 as well!

I was going to get the Jazz configuration, but I think...

Re: New Gretsch Catalina Club 2014 Finishes

It sure is! Although I'd say the VMP will be sexier.

Re: New Gretsch Catalina Club 2014 Finishes

Don't know how to get the picture here, but just google it, or search on thomann.de

The Vintage Marine Pearl is the only one without a picture yet :(

Re: Too late to start? (19)

This may be a "It's never too late..." comment but I know a guy who started playing guitar when he was 75, he's a bit over 80 now and plays in a few bands and also gets some money by playing.

Re: What's the most common kick&snare pattern in swing/jazz?

I think Wavelength's suggestion is a good one, you'll get through most swing comping scenarios with it, but it eventually gets very boring both for you and the listeners. It is however a good way to...

Re: Is this a good deal? Olympic Premier from the 70s

It's a good deal, if it's in good condition there's no reason not to gig with them. And if they still have the thin birch shells w/ re-rings they will sound great.

Re: FIXED DREADED TUBE LUG SPIN!!

What? My tube lugs don't spin, I don't see why they would ever move since there are two screws holding one tube in place?

Re: How do you play clean doubles and rolls around the toms?

I don't have any special technique for it, i simply play doubles on toms the same way I play louder, articulate doubles on the snare. I had a teacher who was subbing for my normal teacher some five...

Re: My Gretsch New Classics are finally here!!

I wouldn't be surprised, but apparently some gretsch rep stated that they were 100% maple. Personally I think there's something else in these with the maple, but it's apparently quite a sensitive...

Living and having toured in Finland I nor any of my friends have had any problems with the cold that I know of. Naturally hardware feels a bit cold when it's been in about -20 Celsius but so far no...

Re: My Gretsch New Classics are finally here!!

Excellent!

I finally got the drums into the tuning I like, took some time. I was surprised by how much more effort it took to tune the New Classics compared to birch drums such as my Recording...

Sorry no, not even audio AFAIK.
Two of us in the quartet own zooms (me included) and were supposed to take them both to the gig. Naturally we both forgot. Then we called a friend who also had one,...

Re: Help me ID These drums!

It looks like the 125th anniversary progressive jazz. The rack tom is 12x8 and the bass drum is I believe 20x14.

Re: Yes, beginner drummers---reading music is crucial --- and it is not that hard to learn...

Also, you make your own life much easier. I played at a restaurant/bar last summer once a week, 3x45 minutes a night. I could never have memorized some 30 songs a week, making some simple sheet music...

Re: Yes, beginner drummers---reading music is crucial --- and it is not that hard to learn...

I find myself often in situations where I really need to focus just to keep track of where we're going on the chart. I've become pretty well established in my local music scene, and people assume I'm...
