Re: Afraid to sound bad?

Practice what you're bad at and perform what you're good at. It's that simple.

That lady actually had a respectable voice, making the drums all that more hilarious.

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

Have him focus really intently on what you're doing when he's hitting his buttons on the floor. They tend to get wrapped up in their own thought process and it ends up making an un-even loop that...

Re: When to stop taking lessons?

Most people I know that are entirely self taught have huge holes in their playing and are less well-rounded than those who went through things methodically and had an outside eye to give criticism...

Re: When to stop taking lessons?

I like to take breaks and mix it up myself. It's hard to get lessons in when you're working and playing shows... I am on a break from lessons right now, in fact. When I feel that I've totally...

Re: Anger, dismay and confusion

Yea, I'm with Mike on this one. Practice is the place where I'm most likely to try something that might not work. I think that's fine. Better there than up on a stage.

A guitar player I used to...

Re: "Play something." What do you play?

Well, I play something.

Personally, I'd be an ass, and play the money beat until they tell me to stop.

Re: Beatbox: friend or foe?

I totally agree with that. All day long I hear music and "beats" in my head, and sometimes I wish I could keep an aural catalog of my ideas. I don't sight-read very well so looking at my scribbled...

Re: Going on Tour would like some advice!

Man, must be nice. I bet you've learned to carry extra caviar and your own sparkling water so you don't have to deal with sub-par crap at only 3 star restaurants you're sometimes forced to endure on...

Re: Tempo comfort zones

One of the guitar players I play with most has this weird rule that we need to be able to play any song correctly at any reasonable tempo. As such, he will count stuff in either too slow or too fast...

Re: Yolanda Charles on drummers! :)

Personally, I think Yolanda Charles should be on a lot more drummers.

Re: Tastes changed overnight

For me, it all depends on the drum. On one drum I might love a head, and on another drum, I'll think it kills the character of the drum.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

You should start a thread about how big kits are better than small kits. I bet that one would draw some responses, too.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

A few years ago, I attended a huge festival here in the states called Burning Man (you may have heard of it). For those who have gone, or know of it, you're probably aware that in some respects,...

Re: The Speed Obsession

This is in really poor taste, guys. Speed is ruining people's lives all over the country. It's less of an obsession, and more of a physical addiction.

Re: More amazing Simon - "most farmer's wives in Bulgaria dance in 9/8"!

It sounds like you wouldn't be so enthused if you were a Bulgarian farmer, though. I mean, the guy would know a bit too much about your wife.

Re: Hi Hat Technique

Just takes practice. The bottom stick is actually making contact with the bottom cymbal, which I think gets lost sometimes.

Re: More amazing Simon - "most farmer's wives in Bulgaria dance in 9/8"!

Well, I see your point. You now have conclusive evidence that in order to play that song the same way he did, you need 2 bass drums.

Re: Worst song ever

I could totally live with it if I never heard that "Get Lucky" Daft P song again.

For months on end, if I turned on the radio, I heard that song... It put me off radio for a long time, still...

Re: I Play Better When I Donít Practice

I'm the opposite. If I miss even one day, I feel like I can't play 100% my best. Not that I really let it bother me, I just notice a difference.

Now, I will tell you that if I've played a song...

Re: Where Do You Fit? - Poll

Isn't your primary job music, too? Just because you're wearing a costume (or a cape) doesn't mean it's not music for money!

Re: Ringo's Drumming: Harder Than It Looks

Oh, look. Another drummer circle-jerk about Ringo. To quote Jafar's parrot companion: "I think I'm going to fall over and die from not surprise".
