Re: Bass drum and double hitting

I have this issue when I'm wearing shoes and I play drums. I usually play with my socks only so I can feel when the beater is doing a double hit.

Re: The Speed Obsession

There's a certain attraction I find with playing something so fast that it'll explode if a beat is missed. I guess there's an excitement to playing fast, it gets your heart beating and it's fun to...

Re: Drumming Barriers/Plateaus

You'd be surprised that taking a break from playing actually helps in some cases. I spent a few months from my guitar lately and just got back to playing it. I now have some fresh ideas and I feel...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

My unpopular opinion would be that Zildjian doesn't make a nice sounding cymbal. I've tried probably dozens of them in stores with the intent to buy one if it pleases my ears but I've yet to be...

Re: Shoes with Elastic Bands: Yes or No?

Just socks, I can feel better what the pedal is doing. I used to drum with light canvas slip on shoes but I found them to have too much grip for slide.

Neil Peart wears slick bottom dancing shoes.

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

#7

I started out on double bass 3 months in to learning drums knowing that I had to start early or the work to catch up would be hard. I currently have experienced a big jump in my playing and 240...

I'm a bit confused with the question could you explain a bit better?

Re: What drummers need for a gig

Hyde covered it pretty well.

I don't think you'll need a van to transport your drums unless you have a very small car or a huge kit. I have a small '05 BMW M3 and it'll swallow up my whole 6 pc...

Re: Mapex Armory or Tama Hyperdrive?

I don't have much knowledge of these but by looking at the specs on the kits they're both very attractive for the $900-1000 price tags. I wish I had these choices when I got my first drum kit.

Re: How does the quality of a drum improve at higher price points?

To add on to what KamaK said

Sound quality improves similar to acoustic guitars, most people won't hear the difference between a $1000 kit and a $2500-3000. It's about getting that last 10-15%...

Re: Singers dragging the tempo

I've never been bothered with a singer dragging or rushing, but then again I've had the joy of playing with talented singers always.

What really drives me crazy is a bass player lagging or...

Re: Songs that make you do a double-take when you sit to down to play them

Provisions - August Burns Red

My first experience running into 7/8 time, so I'm currently working on learning that time sig. It's also a very hard song to begin with, so odd time signatures just...

Re: How our perspective changes

Good words Bo,

You're describing how I am right now. I play as much as I can, and as loud as I want it to be when I'm practicing, with in reason of course. I don't play after 8 pm on week nights,...

Re: Spousal Static - A mini Rant

Drums were not meant to be played solo, you need to play in a band. At least you need to play in a band to have some real fun. You can learn all the theory and practice all you want but there's a...

Re: Louder with or without port?

I'd try a Yamaha Subkick, I've seen them used at a few concerts I've played and they do a good job at capturing the sound of a kick.

Re: I'm having trouble practicing

Just keep practicing, you'll break through the stale period and suddenly leap forward in your playing. It happens quite often for me, it's like my brain needs to digest before it moves on to the next...

Re: More creative drumming with a cape on?

Derp, forgot about pipe band drummers...

A kilted kit player would be a bit awkward though, haha.

Edit: Mostly for the audience.

I can't stop staring at these shells... they're making me want to start my quilted maple stave snare.

Re: TOM TUNING

I've never used any electronic aid or mechanical aid besides a drum key and a drum stick to tune drums. Just tuned everything by what sounds good to my ears, which I trust sounds good to everyone...

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

1. How many bands are you in?

I am currently in one band, Knocking at the Gates. I have been in up to 3 bands at the same time in the past. I recently lost two due to multiple members moving for...
