Re: The side snare

Try listening to Ben Harper's "Will To Live". His drummer uses two contrasting snares to great effect on that tune. One sounds like a piccolo and the other has that muffled fatback sound. The...

Re: Contemplating a brass-for-brass snare trade

You'll grow to love the Sledge. It's heavy but it had a really wide pallette. I've both the 5" Pearl and a Sledge and I've found the Sledge to be more versatile. They're both great snares though....

Re: "Restoring" my old snare.

The Hendrix washers are great! I'm using them on all of my snares. They really do smooth out the whole tuning process and they help to isolate the tuning rod from the rim. Well worth the money.

Re: Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

I wonder how that thing would sound with wood hoops or the hoops that Drum Foundry has that are single flanged and don't need the hoop claws. Hard to say....

That is one gorgeous drum! Can you imagine a whole kit of drums to go with the snare? Fantastic work Motley!

Re: Snare drum throw-off problems..??

I think that your problem is with your snares. I bought a Sledgehammer when they first came out and I've never had any problems with getting any sound that I want out of it. The only problem that...

Try drumfactorydirect.com. There are a lot of places out on the web.

Re: My Gurus through my PA.

Andy,

Those drums sound amazing!!! I need to look at my 401k now. They remind of the old 396 cubic inch engines like they used to put in Chevy SuperSports. Mean and musical at the same time. Love...

Re: Joey Jordison snare?

Don't worry so much about the hardware. You have to grow into the instrument. An inexperienced drummer won't sound any better on a Supra than they will on a Maxwin. Do as much woodshedding as you can....

Re: The session guys!

Roger Hawkins!!! Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Those guys helped define the REAL R&B. Not this garbage that hides under that name today.

Re: Mapex Armoury

I'm not getting this low resale value thing. I've been playing a set of Saturns for a while now and I always get compliments. I've also had more than a few offers for them. They don't have the hype...

Re: So,I Got a Brass Sensitone..

"invert it over the head"
Granted, I'm going senile but I'm not quite getting this. Does he lay an older head on top of the batter head?

Re: Snare Advice!

Or you can buy the Acrolite. It's the same shell and strainer as the Supra but it's about 1/3 the price. I've been using Acros for years now and it really is the best snare at the price that they...

Re: Looking for a snare like Lars Ulrich's (No haters please, lets keep this professional people)

Amen to that Bo!! My first live concert was James Brown and I haven't heard a live sound that tight since! It was all in the skill of the musicians. James didn't let you mess up. If he pointed to you...

Re: Ludwig P-85 rant

When it comes to Ludwigs drummers are like an old married couple. We'll be having the same arguments twenty years from now with at least another 20 to go8^).

Re: Ludwig P-85 rant

I think that I'd take all of the knobs off of his guitar and chuck them. You don't mess with other people's instruments. If he does this to another drummer he might end up losing sonething that he...

Re: 4x14 brass snare

Both Tama and Mapex used to make 4x 14" Bronze nares in a natural bronze finish. That color goes with just about everything and they sound great. The Mapex comes with cast rims, at least mine did. I...

Re: Ludwig P-85 rant

I seriously think that Ludwig has a huge warehouse somewhere full of nothing but P-85s. They aint budging off that design until that warehouse is empty! With drums as good as the Supras and the BBs...

Re: Sleeved Washers

I absolutely love these things! They kind of act like the lug locks that you see. They seem to insulate the tuning rods unless I've totally lost my mind, a very likely scenario. Anyway I'm in the...

Re: Sleeved Washers

Hi,

I didn't see any mention of specials on the Hendrix site. Was that where you saw it? I need some more of these little rascals. Thanks!

Re: Mapex Sledgehammer vs. Tama Black Brass

I named my Sledgehammer "Molly" and Molly is a dreamboat! This is a very sensitive but powerful snare. I haven't heard the Tama yet but I always love their stuff. What is the price differential...

Re: brass vs steel sensitone

I'm not sure how much of a difference a 5.5" vs. 5" shell depth will make but I can vouch for the Elite Sensitones. If you want a deeper, fuller sound you really do need to go with the brass. I like...
