Re: Tribal quality drums?

I'd say try them out first.
I've seen a lot of those in the Montreal region in small music shops. Always around the 600$ mark. I don't think I'd pay around 2K for a Tribal kit, as this looks like a...

Re: an interesting Acrolite

Hey Mike, take another look at the eBay auction, there was a listing error, this snare is a 6.5" in depth, not an 8".
But still, this thing is kinda expensive to me.

Re: How to get a "squeal" out of a normal snare?

Chris Adler uses his signature Black Panther 12x5.5 snare.
No need to crank that thing plywood tight, after all it has a 11.5" inner diameter. But tuned fairly high, it sounds pretty awesome.

On...

Re: seeking a new kit under $1000 - Ddrum? Gretsch? Your opinions?

Yes, I can honestly say now that I love my kit.
Took me a little while and some extra cash to get it to sing like I hoped it would, but now everything sounds pretty nice.

Yes the shells are made...

Re: seeking a new kit under $1000 - Ddrum? Gretsch? Your opinions?

If I was you, I'd look on the used market a little bit before making a move.

Like you said, you already have your little baby at home and this would be your gigging set, right? So, getting a good...

Re: Acrylic snares/kits.

Yes acrylic is loud. I've got a 13x7 cast acrylic snare and it has got a nice big crack sound.
It has much to do with the heads you'd be using though. I use an Aquarian Hi-Energy at this moment. I...

Re: Unix Drums

I think I read somewhere here that Frank will not be doing personal custom kits anymore. That it was a business decision. Since then I haven't seen him post here much often.

Though I might be...

Re: which custom drums company to go with?

I got a Diaton DE pop bottle, it rocks big time. The only thing is that you can't take out the badges, they're laser-engraved right on the shells. The major plus for this is the cast acrylic shells...

Re: Wood hoops on Acrylic?

Fun-wise, it think it could be great.
Budget-wise, it would be expensive. A wood hoops pair for a 13" snare retails at about 150$ shipped. It's kinda expensive just to "try them out".

If I can...

Wood hoops on Acrylic?

Hi there,
I saw a really nice set of drum with wood hoops installed on it the other day and I came to think, what if I'd put some on my acrylic kit? What about hide-a-hoop style wood hoops with...

Re: Rank theses drums !!

Damn!
The gretch renown looks great!
I'd get them instead of the starclassics ---> virgin bassdrum on the renown?

Anyways it looks awesome and practically brand new to me!

Building new stave snare, need advices!

Hi there,
I'm looking to build a new stave or segmented snare from a Rhythm King shell (http://rhythmkingdrums.com). They cost about 100 to 150$ shipped to Canada, edges and snare beds done, oil...

Re: Does any one know what the old pearl export series drums sizes are?

Measure them from the inside of the hoop to the other. Then it should bring you to an even number. 10, 12, 13, 14, 16 etc. If you really want to measure the depth accurately, you should take out the...

Re: DDRUM DIATON...opinions?

I've put on a set of Puresound Blaster wires and a Evans Powercenter cranked-up really high. Can't get much more pop than this!

Re: Opinions please!!!!

Are you sure that the snare is a 13x7?
it pretty much looks like the maple/cherry combo one that is a 13x6. Or else, it looks like the premium one that is 12x7.
I don't think Black Panther did a...

Re: Buying high end professional kits...

I certainly agree with you.
I guess it's all about space. Music shops can't set up a bunch of drum sets all around the floor, it would just take too much space. I live in Montreal, some music shop...

Re: best snare under 250$??

I'd go with a Black Panther Maple Cherry Bomb 13x6".
You can easily get one for about a hundred bucks used on eBay.
I got mine for 100$ shipped in a practically new condition, original heads on....

Re: So... How about those new Black Panthers?

The blaster seems amazing to me.
I already have the 13x6 cherry and it's incredible for it's price tag.

I always preferred a 13x7 size and that's exactly what they're doing now. This time maple...

Re: DDRUM DIATON...opinions?

That's it!
These drums sound great with the right heads.

I've put EC2 batter on all toms
Powercenter on snare
And EMAD1 on bassdrum.
I've kept the stock reso and went with a 4" Olz on the...

Re: What do you think about the SONOR SQ2 ?

SQ2 are for real!
There's one setup at the local music store in a high-gloss camouflage finish.
If I'm not getting it wrong, there was a 26x20 bassdrum, 12 and 14 toms and 16 and 18 floor toms, not...

Re: questions for the drum builders...

I'd say that a snare is a real great start for a builder's project.

Just remember that tube lugs require precise drilling. Usually they aren't swivel at all, which means that they have to be...
