Re: Rack Toms Angled or Flat

Wow, really?

Ok sure, tell me when to stop:

Eric Singer (Alice Cooper, Kiss):

Mike Bordin (Faith No More, Ozzy Osbourne):

Re: Is it me or Peart's HH hit's the bottom of Tom

It really bothers me more than it should that those front two crashes sound exactly the same.

Re: What ever happend to Derrick Pope?

That's too bad and all, but I don't see the point of bumping two ancient threads to post it.

Re: Rack Toms Angled or Flat

People have been saying it's a fad for at least 15 years now.

I'm sure plenty of players set up like that to look cool, but all of them? There are top players in bands who fill arenas every night...

Re: Rack Toms Angled or Flat

I have mine set pretty much flat.

First of all, I'm tall, and it works well with my grip, which naturally tends to keep my sticks pretty level with my forearms. I also enjoy having easy access to...

Re: Is my leg position ok for the kick drum?

That's perfectly fine - There's no reason to line your foot up with the footplate as long as you're comfortable.

You'll see fast kick players swivel their heel left an right constantly, or move...

Re: St Anger snare, or lid of a trash can?

That whole album sounds horrible, and that's without even mentioning the songs themselves.

The trash can lid performed admirably for sure.

Re: "Stand-up for Drummers" on Netflix anyone?

I stuck with it for longer than Woolwich, but yeah... This wasn't really funny to me. He had a couple of jokes that were sort of funny, but every joke felt old and stale, and he just kept jumping...

Re: I'm surprised there are no NEW road worn drums like guitars

Drummers seem to replace their kits a LOT more often too, so they never get the chance to get as worn as guitars.

You'll frequently see a guitar player who's played the same guitar for 40 years,...

Re: Would you join a band for popularity?

If it's a hobby project: If it's fun to play, I'll play it, regardless of whether or not it's something I'd usually listen to myself.

If it's a paid gig (enough to live on): I'd do it, regardless...

Re: R.I.P. Pat Torpey

RIP indeed. Real shame - Parkinsons is a terrible disease.

Very underrated drummer. Definitely outshined by his more famous bandmates, but he was an absolutely terrific player and always knew...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

I don't have a problem with either of those, but I really struggle with 3-up, 1-down. Something about it just looks wrong to me. Add another floor tom and I'm fine with it though. Unexplainable pet...

Re: Simon Phillips groove in 33/8

Simon Phillips can make anything swing. In this case, he damn near makes 33/8 danceable!

Re: How many travelling pro drummers have kids?

I remember him saying the complete opposite - That he specifically chose to not have kids and a family life because he wanted his bands and music to always come first, and he felt the other guys in...

Re: How many travelling pro drummers have kids?

Well, the phrase "left the band to focus on his family" is definitely not an uncommon one to see.

I have a son who's almost two, and even though I know my girlfriend is more than capable of taking...

Re: How generous are you when supplying a kit?

I never let others use my cymbals. If you didn't bring your own, you'll be playing mid 80s Phil Collins style for the night.

I generally tell them they can use my throne and pedals as long as they...

Re: Mike Portnoy Drum tuning techniques?

Yeah, the producer insisted on using a trigger on the snare, and the band didn't have enough leverage at that point in time to persuade him not to.

The rest of the kit is acoustic and miced, but...

Re: Mike Portnoy Drum tuning techniques?

None of those, really. Drums are recorded normally, and then the drum sounds are either enhanced or replaced with sampled sounds. It's very easy to do in the digital recording world.

There are...
