PDP Concept Maple vs. DW Design Series

Okay, so I was looking at some drumkits and the PDP Concept and DW Design caught my eye. They seem pretty similar... maybe the DW has maple sourced from NA and PDP's from Asia, and maybe a few other...

I know this has been asked a lot but I found a lot of other forum posts were kinda confusing. Anyways, I was wondering what is the best MAPLE drum kit around $1000? Anything better than the PDP...

Deen Castronovo JAMMING!

Hey,
It's just a video of my friend and Dean Castronovo (Drummer for JOURNEY!) jamming and playing Wheel in the Sky! I have no idea how he got to do it but as you can see they're both amazing......

Re: Drums vs. cymbals

I put cymbals first. Most drumkits can sound good or atleast decent with good tuning and heads.

Cymbals FTW!

Re: Need Help Choosing a Drum Set

this kit is a nice kit, it's only over $9000 above your budget! (or just go with the PDPs)

Re: Need help choosing drum kit/shell pack

Those heads should probably work for you then. I play the same type of music, and those heads rock - I highly recommend the combination. If you buy a really really cheap kit, you will probably want...

Re: Need help choosing drum kit/shell pack

Since I'm an Evans guy in terms of heads, I can recommend you some nice heads. It's mostly up to what you prefer the most, but my favourite combo is:

Snare - Power Center Reverse Dot (Batter),...

Re: Need help choosing drum kit/shell pack

You know, if you want really good cymbals, I suggest you buy them used from whatever classified site you have in the UK. As long as you make sure they're in good condition, with no cracks, keyholes,...

Re: Need Help Choosing a Drum Set

I do somewhat agree with that but sometimes they have hidden things like warped hoops, damaged/warped wood, or dented bearing edges. It's happened to me before.

Re: Mapex Sledgehamer or G-Bubinga?

Cool! Thanks for the advice. Do you know if it will still be sensitive? I'm thinking of using a Hazy 300 with Puresound Blaster wires... do you think the combination is good?

Re: Mapex Sledgehamer or G-Bubinga?

Would a Power Center Reverse Dot work too? I love that head, it's my favourite snare head (for now).

Mapex Sledgehamer or G-Bubinga?

Hey,
I was thinking about getting a snare in the summer and I've come to like the Mapex Sledgehammer and the G-Bubinga. I play hard rock and metal, but I also play some other genres like pop, and I...

What Snare is this?

Hey,
I know this is a really noob question... but does anyone know what metal this snare is made out of? All I know is it's a 14" x 5.5" (I think - not sure about the depth) and it's a metal snare...

Re: The Age-Old Question.. Birch or Maple?

Don't hate if I'm wrong... but I'm not even sure if PDP even makes a 13" tom for those series... atleast in Canada they don't. Doesn't seem like they do. I think 10/12/14/16 is good enough. Works for...

Mapex Sledgehammer vs. Tama Black Brass

Can't decide between these two awesome snares - the Mapex Sledgehammer and the Tama Black Brass, both 14x6.5. I want a focused, sensitive snare sound with lots of volume and crack and very little...

Re: The Best Hard Rock/Metal Snare!

Hey,
Thanks for the info. Maybe the problem with the Machete was the tuning? I listened to the soundfiles on the Mapex website and I like the Machete better, but I'm not sure if it is the tuning or...

Re: The Best Hard Rock/Metal Snare!

I've been looking at Mapex snares recently and I've come to like the Sledgehammer and the Machete (Both 14" x 6.5" I think). Also the Tama Power Maple seems interesting.

Anyone has any experience...
