Re: Right Heads for a Renown Maple?

Yeah, I agree with you, topgun. For me, the resonance is there, but it's just the tone. I feel like using coated G2s will give me a warmer attack without sacrificing resonance. In theory it should be...

Re: Right Heads for a Renown Maple?

So it's basically obvious that I need to replace the stock resos?

How about muffling? I've heard some people say to leave them open, but some people will use moon gels or rings.

Hey...

Right Heads for a Renown Maple?

Hi everyone.

It's been a while since I've posted, but a deal on craigslist finally went through for me. I bought a used Gretsch Renown Maple in the following configuration: 7x8, 8x10, 9x12,...

Re: Where to play my kit?

I'm with jamn on this one. I have mesh heads that I used as a bargaining chip for getting my first kit. I don't have them on anymore :D, but they are surprisingly quiet and they feel closer than any...

Re: Black Panther vs Gretsch Snare

For the Black Panther, won't the extra 1.5 inches of depth help compensate for the lack of the cutting sound?

Black Panther vs Gretsch Snare

Hi everybody, I'm looking at a kit on the net, but it doesn't come with a snare. I've found two snares that I think are worth looking into. Their respective prices are about $25 apart, so money isn't...

Re: Gretsch - Maple or Ash?

Totally. Die-cast hoops allow better tuning stability, 30 bearing edges give the kit a classic Gretsch sound, the silver sealer on the inside allows more of the resonant vibrations of the drum to...

Re: Gretsch - Maple or Ash?

Double-post (sorry)

Of course, it just hit that you're in the UK, so I'm not sure about the shipping price. Look around on craigslist too if those don't float your boat.

Re: Gretsch - Maple or Ash?

Well, not all mahogany is created equal, you see.

When a kit is made from Mahogany and it costs $10000000, then it's real mahogany. The thing is, most kits use a lower quality mahogany, which,...

Re: what happens when you feel you've lost stamina to druM?

Also, technique can come into play here. When you mentioned the 16th note song, my mind automatically pictured you using some really inefficient, choked grip. Don't take this the wrong way, because I...

Re: Gretsch - Maple or Ash?

The "big three" woods are mahogany, maple, and birch. Mahogany is best with low end pitches, birch is sharper, and better with high end pitches, and maple is the best of both worlds. I'd personally...

Re: perfect pitch. what about perfect timing?

Sorry for getting off topic, because I don't know about perfect timing, but just note that being able to identify a pitch isn't all to having perfect pitch. My friend has it and he's also able to...

Re: what grip type do you use?

Haha. I'll elaborate.

Generally the lighter the music, the more French grip I use, especially on the ride or hats, and when I start to play more heavily, my hand(s) will turn over more towards...

Re: Gretsch Renown Mahogany craigslist - $800 obo

Alright, the dude contacted me back via email and said that the kit has been sold for about two weeks but he just hasn't had the time to take down the listing.

What a shame.

Well I know there's...

Re: Gretsch Renown Mahogany craigslist - $800 obo

Btw,

why the heck haven't these drums gone yet?!

The last real post here was from late October, and he posted the listing on Oct 16th!

Has anyone actually come in contact with this guy?...

Re: Gretsch Renown Mahogany craigslist - $800 obo

If anyone can give the the specific tom sizes (because I doubt it's actually 10x10 and 12x10) I'd be entirely grateful.

I think I'm gonna go for it.

NAMM Predictions?

Hi everyone. Sorry for starting this thread if it's a duplicate, but I searched and didn't find anything.

The real reason for this is because I'd like to know if you guys think that Gretsch will...
