Re: Stage Etiquette

No, this guy was capable of being competent because I was talking to him and saw the shelving he did on the drum kit channels and how he worked out the sidechaining on the bass guitar. At some point...

Re: Stage Etiquette

I know this is covered a bit in other threads, but how do you guys handle completely obnoxious or rude live sound engineers? I've had pretty good luck for the most part, but I have had one or two...

Re: tom mounts on cymbal stands

All three of my toms are mounted on cymbal stands. I have no issues with wobble at all as long as I extend the legs out as far as they go and keep one foot generally underneath the tom. The only real...

Re: Stage Etiquette

Take some time to notice the people in the crowd who seem to be watching you. Interact with em. It's pretty easy to pick all two of them out.

The singer might be the MC of the party so to speak,...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

When people telescope boom stand shafts really high and have the arm set at a 90 degree angle. It just looks weird.

Huge expensive DW boom stands used solely for mounting a 10" splash.

CS dot...

Re: Stage Etiquette

Totally agree with you on it not being the time to show off a bunch of chops. I have had several live engineers who prefer the drummer do quarters and 16ths on the toms and kick, just to check the...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

I've seen a guy set up a 4 piece kit with just a ride and crash, and then use a big ICON rack to mount them all. I just dont get it.

Also dont like kits where there's like 7 cymbals and 4 toms on...

Re: Stage Etiquette

if at all possible, try to ask for adjustments to your monitor mix with non verbal cues....out of the spotlight and away from the mic. Nothing breaks the audiences vibe like someone booming out...

Re: Stage Etiquette

More of "venue etiquette" but I ran into this issue the other week.

If your band draws a good crowd, and one of the other bands draws a good crowd, don't spend their entire set hoarding your...

Re: Incredible "policy" from Memphis Drum Shop

I'll give the OP an example from a different kind of merchandise.

When I was selling satellite radios, we often were able to buy brand new models from the manufacturer that were tagged with a "C"...

Re: Incredible "policy" from Memphis Drum Shop

I wont ask who you bought it from, but I will say MDS didn't get where they are by screwing people over.

That's for the large corporate chains with an endless supply of 16 year olds to sell to.

Re: Incredible "policy" from Memphis Drum Shop

That's what makes me think the Ludwig policy is selective, applying to certain models or their stock status/who actually ships the item.

Paiste makes it easy: Nothing leaves the country.

Re: Incredible "policy" from Memphis Drum Shop

It's possible Ludwig has a selective no-sell policy on certain items but not others. MDS may very well have had to contact Ludwig to check on stock and determine whether a specific item can be sold...

Re: Fraud Alert on eBay!

By way of heavily processed studio sounds or is it something more nefarious like using pro line models on entry level sound clips?

Re: Fraud Alert on eBay!

Maybe my idea of retail is skewed, but I don't see how you can defend a listing simply because it does "not claim to sell the product shown"

That's a classic example of deceitful salesmanship.

Re: Fraud Alert on eBay!

Even if you hadn't told me he was biting your photos, I would never trust an Ebay seller who is satisfied with this kind of listing:

Re: No Respect

As a drummer raised near Cleveland OH, I can tell you, you just have to take jabs made from widespread social stereotypes with ten pounds of salt.

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Of the drummers Lars gets thrown into the peer tank with (Charlie Benante, Dave Lombardo, Nick Menza), I'd say his parts typically involve the least double bass runs.

If you put that on the bill with a couple other tributes that make sense, I'm betting you get a good turnout.
