Re: What makes a pro kit?

A pro kit is played by a professional, who makes money from playing said kit. So he who goes out and makes a living on some old crappy exports makes those exports professional drums. Just like some...

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

IIRC outer drum shell diameter is 1/8" under nominal value, so most all 14" snares are only 13 7/8" on the outside. No big deal I guess if you're getting the bearing edges turned down; just get the...

Re: Advice please?

If they're coming to your place to audition you, help them carry their gear in and out. It worked for me.

Other than that, just have fun!

Re: For those who play at church or not.

I played at a small church a couple of times, with a small choir and piano. Before service, with just the first few people trickling in, I got some "woohoo, a drummer!" responses and people wanting...

Re: The Orphan Drum Factory

Wow. Way beyond what I expected. Porthole and tentacle and all. Now you just need some cogs or something printed on your bass drum reso.

Diving helmets off to you.

Re: The Orphan Drum Factory

Jim...just looking at those last few pictures...what the hell kind of steampunk mothership are you living in?

You're wearing brass goggles and working on gizmos as we speak, aren't you?

Re: Pork Pie Snares?

Yep, some ugly backwards lug splay, to complement the ugly lugs and ugly shell.

Does lug splay even really matter when you have typical swivel nut lugs? I get how it would be horrible on tube lugs...

Re: Crowdfunding Campaign to Compensate "Amen Break" Owner

Cool! I'm gonna go rip off Tom Sawyer, In The Air Tonight, and Jack and Diane on my next album. Why not; Moby Dick, too. And no one from my generation will even notice!

Re: My Signets and the gong

It was literally painful to read your other thread where you initially passed it up. That gong is a piece of sex and only $130 and you should know better.

Shame on you.

Nice gong.

Re: S****y albums done by great bands..

Honestly I only have the first one. I'm just assuming the second is equally ridiculous. You know, with someone yanking on Gillette's nuts the whole time.

Every time I start getting into a song,...

Re: Wanting to join a marching band

Maybe try out for cymbals. I got stuck on the big bass my first year and then played snare for the rest of high school. I was really good at snare, but looking back, the cymbals were pretty cool and...

Re: S****y albums done by great bands..

My girlfriend gave me their discography and I listened through all of it for the first time last night/this morning. I thought the same thing, so you're not alone.

I would like to nominate both...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

If he wan't one of the richest drummers out there and he didn't come off as an asshole...then some people would still find reasons to hate him.

Re: Felt vs plastic

Re: Strip it???

When I was in high school we had a kit there that looks exactly like that old yamaha pic of yours. I think there were three toms, though. I distinctly remember the finish looking hand done.
