Re: Musicians Say streaming Music will Leave them Broke.

Obviously a video must be promoted in its entirety, there's not much that can done about that. Maybe have the audio in mono so it's less attractive to listen to or record the stream, but have the...

Re: Musicians Say streaming Music will Leave them Broke.

There's a difference between streaming, and song samples designed to let you hear what a song sounds like in order to make a buying decision.

I am thoroughly amused by people who post entire songs...

Re: Musicians Say streaming Music will Leave them Broke.

YouTube will be strictly for promoting the videos in order to generate interest and sell the particular song, which will be available on iTunes, Amazon, and the usual digital outlets. The idea of...

Re: Musicians Say streaming Music will Leave them Broke.

Don't get me wrong, streaming is great in terms of discovering new music. The problem is, too many people simply rely on streaming the songs when they want to hear/watch them, rather than ever make a...

Thank you, and as we say: there's nothing funny about a hit album!

Re: Contrats To Bermuda!

This was pretty much like any other Al-bum, the right balance of brain surgery and skill is key to getting things right. However, this may be our first album where every original was played live, and...

Re: Musicians Say streaming Music will Leave them Broke.

It's true that income for the majority of artists has shifted from record sales to live performance (or the occasional licensing.) The internet is largely responsible for the decline of sales over...

Re: Contrats To Bermuda!

Thanks, it's a pretty big deal for us! Thankfully, there were no Beyoncé, Justin, Gaga, Pharrell, or Justin releases with which to contend! (gotta watch those #wordcrimes!)

Re: What drummers have marched?

I believe 311's Chad Sexton marched.

I also marched through about age 16.

And, I marched again recently for the Sports Song video - premiered this morning at www.weirdal.com

Re: Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz here!

Thanks, this was a fun album both to play, and program. Sports Song is all me, a 10x14" Ludwig clear maple marching snare (c1971?) double tracked, a 14x26" Legacy kick fairly wide open and played...

Re: Anyone ever try to poach your seat?

There's nothing wrong with approaching a band and letting them know you're available. But berating the existing member is the wrong approach.

There have been a few guys who've made it known to Al...

Re: Another Band Drama Thread

If the venues say you're too loud, you're too loud... that's not subjective, it's apparently a fact.

What I do when players around me get loud, is I back off until they realize they can't hear me...

Re: Deciding on Album Artwork?

Yep.

Unless there is a specific tie-in to the band's music, members, concept or target audience, album art is completely subjective. Try not to think too hard about it, whatever direction pleases...

Re: Spaun snare drums

I'll agree that extreme venting can dry up the sound quite a bit, but hardly like a phonebook or a box! You can only get that through tuning and muffling.

My ultimate vented snare sounds as lively...

Grrrr... that's why I have a problem with Roc & Soc! A seat clamp snapped, and instead of taking care of the problem, they suggested...

Re: Opinions on what to do with these old ludwig Classic Maples?

I agree with keeping the toms and adding a kick, but I'd go white sparkle. :)

Re: Mystery drum kit (ludwig)

Not sure about the kit, it would be very unusual to create a one-off kit for photos, since they really couldn't be used to help sell a kit that's not available. The only thing I can think of is that...

Re: Making Ends Meet Between Tours?

It certainly shouldn't be that way, yet too many musicians can't distinguish between the two. It's called overplaying, and it always happens at the wrong time.

Those who know the difference, and...

Re: Ludwig Vistalite Recording!

I used my Vistalite 14x24, 16x18, and 13/14/15/16" concert toms on a few tracks on Al's last album, and they sounded warm and punchy... kinda "meaty" if that makes sense. Bo is right, head selection...

Re: Tuning tip

Yep, that's because damping the middle decreases the fundamental note and let's the harmonics be heard better. Same reason a dot head sounds louder - the harmonics make the sound seem brighter, with...

Re: Making Ends Meet Between Tours?

I know plenty of great players with separate careers, and they enjoy playing weeknights & weekends as much as anyone else. It's a nice distraction from the 9-to-5, there's none of the pressure about...
