Re: Can you turn an "intermediate" kit into a "pro" kit?

I think you'd need one of those cool little chrome skulls that Karl Crafton has on his kit. That could class up even the most beginner of kits.

Re: Real Life Whiplash

Yeeew... Bleach and lots of it.

Do you want Hepatitis? Because that's how you spread the Hep. The polite thing to do would be to at least let you know.

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

Oooh, this should be a fun one. Post lots of pics, I love drums made from non conventional materials. There was a thread in another forum, think it was Ghostnote, where a guy made a 13" snare from an...

Re: Mike Marsh ddrum signature steel snare

I'd go look at it and have a listen. If you like it then haggle a bit. Offer him $100 and if you get pushback settle for $120. If he's not willing to deal then walk away from it.

Don't take the...

Re: Going to Istanbul!

Hope you have fun. My brother went on a trip to India and just had the time of his life. I'd love to go myself some day.

Make sure you post lots of picture of whatever treasures you bring back.

Re: Mike Marsh ddrum signature steel snare

Ah, now we're are the heart of the matter. Of course you know that is really going to be up to you and your ear. If you are able to try it out and you really like the way it sounds and figure it is...

Re: Things you hate to have happen while drumming

I think you're joking Larry but you got me wondering, what did drummers in the 70's do? I remember getting the beater caught in my pant leg many times when I started playing. I used to wear boot cut...

Re: For those who play at church or not.

Thanks Bill, Larry and Yesdog. I thought I had this quiet thing down, I have held this gig because of my ability to contribute to the music without blasting everyone out of their seats. I am going to...

Re: For those who play at church or not.

I play at a small service for a fairly large church every Sunday. I have gotten way with playing my full acoustic kit with maple sticks and thinner cymbals. Recently though, they moved us into a...

Re: Drummers you thought sucked,but...

I never liked that Bo Eder guy. I mean, sure he's a good drummer, not like that kid from Whiplash or anything, but he is a really negative fellow. You'd think someone with all those drums would smile...

Re: Got hustled, any input apreciated

Haah!! I saw that the other day. I read the title and though "Wow! A real Mardi Gras wrap?" You can all imagine my disappointment.

OP, don't feel bad. I like the way Bob put it, a pricey lesson...

Re: What will it take for me to be able to do this?

No, I was just being silly. I'm a Jazz guy who happens to be Mexican and my wife who is white actually plays mariachi music.

I would like to play Banda but the only gig I have at the moment is...

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

Well she is a massively selling artist and a helluva performer so thankfully she could give a crap what any of us think. I would love to be such a well liked and successful caricature. Hell, I'd...

Re: What will it take for me to be able to do this?

Thanks, I just wasted 20 min watching Banda videos on youtube.

Hmm... I wonder if I can find a gig like this in Phoenix. Looks like a much easier load in than taking a full kit.

To answer your...

Re: Whiplash Oscar win - will it spur sudden interest in "jazz drumming"?

Haah! I guess Jojo didn't read that fluff about the actor doing "90%" of his drumming parts for the movie.

I was excited to see the movie after learning that the actor was a drummer. poor kid...

Re: Crazy hard work has it's compensations - my playground :)

Don't let him in there, he'll hoity toity up the place with his Berkelee haughtiness.

You should put some coated heads on the big walnut kit and have him play a flawless rendition of "Sing sing...

Re: Lots of new Happenings! (first drum lesson!!)

I'd lose him. You're in NYC, lots of talent to be found there. I'll bet you could throw a drumstick out your window and hit a good drum teacher. Keep looking!

Re: How many times have you been asked...

I think that could be Andy's outlook on life summed up here.

I'd be cool with letting him play. I can change dented heads. I'd just be wary of a really hard hitter on my expensive cymbals.

Re: Advice on traditional grip

+1. At the core of becoming a real drummer is the constant tinkering and adjusting of crap on your setup. Personally I love it. I recently mounted a tom off the bass drum hoop with a hoop clamp. Had...

Oooh, I like that setup. is that your L side ride/crash over your hats? I'll bet you can get around very quickly with that setup.

It bums me out when I read comments from the disillusioned old...

Re: Help! Left hand doubles in jazz comping

Oooh... That looks like a fun exercise. Thanks for sharing Todd. I have a long road trip this week so I'll have some time to shed this.

Been working on 3 Camps to increase my hand speed like you...
