Re: Your practise schedule - Tips and tricks!

Ya but Dennis Chambers always said that he learned to play drums from playing in the nightclubs. He's been playing with bands since he was like 5 years old. How do you think his feel is so good? He...

Re: Your practise schedule - Tips and tricks!

Hmm I used to practice technical things all the time but I rarely do anymore. I always keep my technique in mind when I play, but I don't obsess over it. These days I'm always focused on groove. I...

Re: upbeat 3 4 jazz solo

First of all nice playing bro props on that, especially for your age. I think your solo was good but overall I think it could have been more musical, and it could have swung harder. Things to...

Re: Reggae/ska drumming

Use the search button, there's been lots of topics on this. For some general advice I would recommend listening to a lot of reggae music. Listen to the older stuff first before you start checking out...

Re: Open/close technique

One thing that I've been wondering for a while....

On Jojo Mayer's dvd he says that the open close/push pull method is the fastest way to play with 1 hand. Therefore if you do it with both hands...

Re: "Syncopation" by Ted Reed -Anyone have suggestions on ways to practice?

hmm... Lately I've been using it for independence in Latin type grooves. I do quarters with the hi-hat, clave with left hand, bass drum is on the and of 2 and on 4 than I would play the exercises on...

Re: Reggae Drumming

Ya I agree. I have always found Carly's riddims more interesting than Sly's. I find that his style is a lot more feel oriented. I don't think I've ever heard any drummer that has played on reggae...

I'm gonna go with mike johnston he's got an undeniable groove and wicked chops. He's got some cool lessons mostly on fills.

Drum movies?

Hey what's up fellow drummers! I was just wondering if you guys know any movies in pop culture that feature drums/drummers. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is drumline, with Nick...

Re: The Grand Master Buddy Rich

My dad saw the Buddy rich big band one time in the 80's when Buddy had a broken arm. He played through the entire show with 1 arm. He did all his solos too! My Dad said it was the most incredible...

Re: STICK CONTROL (george L stone) your experiences and suggestions

Hmm I've recently started using this book in a way to co-ordinate my limbs and I am seeing results quickly. Basically I've just used the first page and played one sticking with the feet and the other...

Re: Rediculously Massive Drum Kits

Wow that looks like an amazing kit to play. I love that set up! I don't think it's that huge either. Plus Beauford uses his whole kit creatively unlike some others with large kits. I'm pretty sure...

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Hmm I'd have to go with my 4 way independence. My overall 4 way co-ordination though not that bad for how long I've been playing, would be my greatest weakness. Especially when it comes to Latin...

Re: The legendary Steve Gadd.

When I first started drumming a while back I hadn't heard of many drummers. I was convinced Neil Peart was the world's best based on what friends had told me as I didn't listen to Rush. I Youtubed a...

Re: Neil Peart

Honestly I think he's a good drummer. He can play in nearly all styles, I admit not always convincingly but he's still a great drummer. He plays a bit too busy imo but it suits the music of rush...

Re: So is ANYONE capable of drumming?

I see so basically are drummers born or made sort of thing? The thing about the Weckl question though is that it's not just about practicing everything he practiced. You would have to live his exact...

Re: Jojo Mayer foot technique?

Thanks for the replies! I can imagine that it is a hard technique to get down! But I am definitely prepared to woodshed this one cause this isn't something most drummers can do! I agree with you that...

Re: So is ANYONE capable of drumming?

I don't think so! I've encountered many people who have terrible rhythm! They can't stand learning either they find it too boring and slow and just want to destroy the kit.

Re: Things you hate to have happen while drumming

Oh my gosh man I hear you! I know this kid that is just like that. He has absolutely 0 rhythm and somehow he thinks he's good! He randomly smacks the whole kit with no rhythm or technique extremely...

Jojo Mayer foot technique?

Hey fellow drummers I'm new here, wassup!? Anyways I really like single pedal and probably want to stick to it. I always thought it would be cool to be able to play double bass patterns with one...
