Good values in our Community

Hey Guys,

I just want to tell a quick story. In December of 2012, one of the bands I play with suffered a head-on car accident that left our van totaled, and most of our gear destroyed. In the...

Re: 2 Contrasting pieces for college interview!

Give em' some bossa nova. Err'body loves bossa nova.
Or just work out a jazz standard. That's pretty accepted as important among music schools.

Re: Ridiculous sale on music equipment at Best Buy stores!

No kidding! I live in Greenland and was just over there last Wednesday checking those snares out. I opted not to pull the trigger because another snare wouldn't of been the most fiscal decision if I...

Re: Indulge or Buy Logically?

Big and indulgence should not be related like that. Same for smart and small. It's all a matter of taste. What sounds best to you? What will be most inspiring to you to play? No one should get down...

Re: Find a Drum Teacher Here

Does anybody teach/know of teachers in the New Hampshire seacoast (Dover, Portsmouth, Somersworth, Stratham, etc.) area? South coastal Maine like Kittery and Elliot is viable too, as is anything...

Re: Stupid tight marching drum tuning

I think it's subjective to the band and the quality of drums they're using. Albeit the trend has been to tune marching snares very tight, it by no means sacrifices the quality of the snare. At least,...

Re: Are young musicians, cool, or nerds.

It's all relative. Where I come from (and I'm 17, mind you), musicians are far from geeks. One of my best friends, who is also my age and the singer for a locally-popular indie band is kinda...

Re: Underrated Drummers

Steve Smith of Circa Survive.
I've said it on here before and I'll say it again, this guy is so hugely under appreciated. More than likely due to lack of exposure, Circa Survive's following is a...

Help needed with Tama Swingstars

Through an awesome turn of events, I've come into a Tama Swingstar kit. I think it's older, just the looks of it and the t-rods on the bass drums brought me to that. But what I'm confused on is well,...

18" Bass Drum to Floor Tom Conversion?

How difficult do you guys think it would be to convert this Gretsch Catalina Elite 18" Bass drum I have sitting around into an 18" Floor Tom?
Would it be as simple as getting the right hoops,...

Re: The poor state of my 1976 slingerland.

Thank you for the advice! I think i'll do that. I just wonder about the condition of the shells under the wrap. I wouldn't be surprised to see marks. I'm sure I could use some wood filler, though....

The poor state of my 1976 slingerland.

As the title suggests, my drum kit is in really sorry shape.
The story is, after having drummed for a year and a half on my tama imperialstar (my very first kit) I came across an add for a used 1976...

Re: Snare Throw off?

My Black Panther had the same problem and it seems to be a common one.
What I did was went to my local drum shop and I had the owner help me order a new one straight from Mapex which is (thus far)...

Re: The grooviest groove?

By no means the grooviest, but when the bass kicks in on Incubus' "Are You In?".
Damn.

Re: What drum shops have you been to in your life?

Drum Center Of Portsmouth! Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
I gotta say, Shane (owner) is one of the most helpful guys I've ever encountered at a drum shop.

Re: Odd technique?

He's an insane drummer for sure.
His technique is just very unorthodox to say the least.

Odd technique?

I LOVE The Bad Plus, but what would you say about their drummer's technique here?
