Re: Good drummer ... Good dancer?

I know this is the opposite way around but I read once that Buddy Rich and it was either Gene Krupa or Louis Bellson took tap dancing lessons to improve their pedal technique and Taryn Lee Young was...

Re: Use of Double Bass?

Hmm double pedals, what to say well... I could live without one but I love using one.

I think they're used best when doing patterns think: Chris Adler, Tomas Haake and Raymond Herrera. These are...

Re: Stuck in a rut

Polly offers some great advice here mate.

I think the common way to practice a certain lick or fill or whatever is to find a song where it has been used before, then copy it. When you are used to...

Re: Barefoot? Or with Shoes? how do you play?

I played with shoes for 8 years and just recently I tried bare foot with no socks. I feel it gives much better control and my heel doesn't keep hitting the heel plate anymore like it used to when I...

Re: Just keeping the beat

I have to agree with this Larry.

Usually when the guitar solo starts, the drums are stripped to the bare minimum and I enforce this rule. Yes it does feel boring.

However, there is no rule...

Re: First Paid Gig and Bassist Issues

Unless his dad is a musician in a band himself and knows the struggles that happen when one member doesn't gel with the rest, he knows absolutely nothing, stand up for yourselves and don't tolerate...

Re: First Paid Gig and Bassist Issues

Your bassist has a serious attitude problem and has a problem with commitment. The whole 'I don't need to practice as much as you guys...' comment is utterly ridiculous, just because he has been...

Re: Bored w/drumming... help?

There's playing and there's practice.

I know what you mean man I tried the whole rudiment practice schedule and I ended up so bored I just stopped. In the end I told myself I love drumming for...

Re: Being in more than one band

Yeah man

I'm in 3 myself.

2 original bands that gig quite regularly and a Tribute band that is just practicing once a week and not gigging yet. I practice Tuesday, Thursday nights and Saturday...

Re: Double bass pedal board angle

This one is a no-brainer for me. I have my footboard as low as my pedal will allow me and to counteract the power problem I have my beater almost full length, set my beater back about 7" from the...

Re: Songs to practice double bass along to

Well mate you said improve your control and I'm having to learn this and is probably the hardest thing I've ever had to learn 'Walk with me in Hell' by Lamb of God. The double bass patterns...

Re: Saw a lousy drummer last night

Oh I love reading these kinds of threads hehe.

Damn you Larry, you just messed up my theory that any drummer using traditional grip is automatically awesome.

Re: Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. Need advice.

I find it very strange that you are playing such a complicated piece of music for a high-school band. However this is awesome, it's gonna test you to the limits!

Re: Drummers with deteriorating skills

I'll get this one in before anyone else. Lars Ulrich.

Lars's drumming became very unimpressive after his 'And Justice for All' days. I would say he was brilliant back then, he dealt with time...

Re: Say it with water...

Oh man that is awesome, unfortunately a lot of members will not be able to view this I would imagine.

Who would have thought you could actually do that.

Re: Anyone NOT want to be a pro?

I'll be honest with you Jim, this story made me smile.

It made me smile for a couple of reasons, A: you were very honest and that is good, B: you have a great manor about you and I can tell you...

Re: Who are some better "Metal" drummers?

Ah man how could I miss out Andols? He's one of my favourite drummers and he's so precise it's unbelievable.

Re: Size does matter

Well after 4 years I think it was of playing I went and upgraded my 5 piece CB to an 8 piece. So I had 4 rack toms a floor tom and 2 bass drums.

After another 4 years I primarily play 4 and 5...

Re: Who are some better "Metal" drummers?

Yeah my favourites aren't particularly speed demons but more creative.

Scott Travis (Judas Priest, Racer X)
Tomas Haake (Meshuggah)
Chris Adler (Lamb of God)
Dave McClain (Machine Head)...

Hey Larry, 'techristian' translated it in his first post (The second post). That is a good response indeed and I know what his response would have been if I'd said that lol.

Even if I had of asked...

Re: Is it me or is this incredibly cheeky?

The reason I didn't ask him myself again is because that would make me look incredibly pushy and I didn't even want to ask him in the first place (although I probably would have), if you read my...

Re: Is it me or is this incredibly cheeky?

Well I did feel bad afterwards for not lending it cause I hate conflict or even saying no to anyone.

I once told a drummer that he must bring 4 things to the gig; snare, stool, pedal and cymbals....

Is it me or is this incredibly cheeky?

Hi guys + gals

Last night I had a gig at a local pub well (15 minutes away from my house).

It was us and another band playing.

Well silly me I forgot my cymbals and I told my bass player as...
