Re: Advice on value of monster vintage Pearl kit

If I were you, I wouldn't let them go for anything less than $5,000.

Re: Maybe I'm done compensating for my height ;)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNn5Q7H-FeA

12" mounted tom-tom, 14" floor tom-tom and 20" bass drum are perfect.

Regarding the 14" vs 16" debate, the smaller size of the 14" speaks quicker and...

Re: I need your advice please

I would mount it a bit closer to the edge (maybe two inches) like in this photo:

Re: Why is jazz drumming still so dominant?

It is the foundation/root of all drumming.

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

They would immediately be repurposed as a raft or kindling for fire.

Re: Trouble with 20" Ludwig bass drums and Remo heads

What if you tighten the head until it seats against the hoop? Is that possible?

Re: Sonor SQ1 vs ProLite

Any decent drummer is going to play with a wide variety of dynamic levels. When you made it a point to say that you are a "hard hitter", a bashing caveman is what came to mind.

:-)

Re: Sonor SQ1 vs ProLite

Striking a drum with too much force can result in a smaller sound from the drum. An occasional burst for effect is one thing, but consistently forceful strikes won't actually result in a big sound.

Re: Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

Got it. I tend to prefer the heavier zinc ones, but the aluminum ones are pretty good. I think I prefer the aluminum ones on tom-toms.

Re: Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

Mine seem to be pretty nice. Not exactly like the Yamahas, but definitely worth the price paid. Chrome is fine, and they're not warped. Amazing, considering how they were packed...

For your...

Re: Die cast hoops

FYI, the aluminum die cast hoops which are available at a lower price on eBay are a couple of millimeters deeper than the Yamaha ones. They're good quality, but not identical to the Yamaha hoops.

Re: Anyone here ever lose their "mojo" for music/drums? I'm at a crossroads..............

Don't sweat it at all. I've gone through periods where I didn't care for music or drums at all and eventually came back to it stronger, and many times even playing better (aside from the typical...

Re: Weights inside new Yamaha bass drum. Can someone explain how this works?

That is incorrect. He places a rolled up and duct taped towel inside and taped to the batter head.

Re: Wearing watches while drumming

I used to own a really nice mechanical watch, but the crown would dig into the top of my hand while playing sometimes, so I sold it. Now I only wear watches that either have no crown, or it's offset...

Re: New Drums Day (DW Acrylic inside)

You're probably right, but for some reason I just assumed that they didn't have a seam. I was surprised when I saw the seam at NAMM. I know that the old Vistalites had problems with cracking where...

Re: Question about remo powersonic

It attaches to the head, and the head has to have the snaps in the exact spots. It can't be used with any other model. The Powerstroke Pro has enough dampening already built in, so adding any more...

Re: New Drums Day (DW Acrylic inside)

That's definitely the way to go. They should last a long time. I wonder why Ludwig does it the other way... Seems like they're asking for trouble.

Re: New Drums Day (DW Acrylic inside)

Are the shells one solid piece, or is there a seam? I was watching a Ludwig video where they show how they make them, and they're just like plywood drums, where the piece of acrylic is placed into a...
