Re: Are DW drums still cool?

While I agree that the marketing guys do a great job, I have to attribute the brand loyalty thing to a "too large" percentage of people that use a sheep-like mindset. They actually internalize the...

Re: How do YOU Tune?

I'm addressing tom tuning only.

Seating the head: (defined as getting the head tensioned even all the way around, at the heads lowest tension that will make a pure note, NOT cranked to oblivion)

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

I don't understand the personal insult thing. People taking themselves way too seriously here. Would I be insulted if a person I was with didn't share my taste in food? I see no difference here. Are...

Re: Hi-z Lo-z

Hi Z cables are only good for about 20 feet where Low Z cables can do I think 250 feet or so. Use Low Z whenever possible, but you already know that.

I only use Hi Z if I have to, because I ran...

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

It all seems harmless, but dissing a brand of drums to me is comical. To me it's like having a bug up my ass about a certain brand of rye bread lol. I don't know why it amuses me but it does. I guess...

Re: Old age creeps up.

I had a friend who told me a story about when his Dad got a new flat screen TV.

So the Dad was installing it and trying to get it to function correctly. The TV was driving him insane because it...

Re: Bo's last name

Since he has no preference, I vote for the feeder rhyme.

OK next question. His middle name. What's Bo's middle name? Does he have one? Is it hyphenated? Is it a normal name or a wacky name? Is he...

Re: Bo's last name

Yea, I like it with the long "E" sound.

Andy pronounces it with a short E.

I've been up nights wondering about the correct pronunciation. To say it's been weighing heavily on my mind is an...

Re: Pre-planned drum fills??

You forgot to say Punk? at the end :)

I'm pretty sure Jon surgically dissects every drum part and plays them just like the original.

Bo's last name

In your mind, how are you pronouncing it?

So it rhymes with feeder? Or so it rhymes with better?

Re: Pre-planned drum fills??

Ha ha I try and avoid more than 3 note drum fills. Why? Everyone else has them covered. It's refreshing to me to not take the bait. But that's mostly due to the music I play. Drum fills are...

Re: Anyone here ever lose their "mojo" for music/drums? I'm at a crossroads..............

I know that for me, disassembling and thoroughly cleaning and polishing my drums always makes me want to play them.

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

All drums are cool.

This conversation has not much to do with DW drums and everything to do with DW's marketing and people's opinions about them. IMO, DW has fine sounding shells, great hardware,...

Re: Boundary mics?

Update: I finally found the trick to placing a room mic properly in my space.

For starters, I used the nicest condenser mic I have. I basically found that if I position it the same way as I would...

Boundary mics?

I can't seem to got a room mic to work for my studio recordings, so I am considering boundary mics. Room mics really detract in my space. Or they add stuff I don't want. One of them.

My ceiling is...

Re: Gretsch USA Custom vs. Broadkaster vs. Brooklyn Video

I liked the USA Customs and the Brooklyns the best.

Shane you rock. Thanks for doing all this.

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Not too much emotion going on in the audience looking at the robot.

Nah, that's not important, emotion. No one will ever notice there is none.

Re: Kick Snare & Hat

I'm more of a substance guy. It doesn't matter to me what size/color/brand kit. What really matters is what he does with it. The amount of drums has no bearing on my enjoyment of the drummer.

Re: 4 piece kit

I'm a recent user of the 4 piece kit. I just don't need 3 toms with the bands I play with now. I still prefer a 5 piece, but why bother when I hardly use the toms at all anyway.

It's definitely...

Re: I don't understand why people close mic

I can't believe how long it's taking me to get my perfect drum sound in my room. I'm pretty much there, but phew, what an effort it turned out to be. It's been about a year and a half now. By...

Re: The 8 lug snare drum

OK you got a deal. I got the raw finish. 14 x 6.5, 10 lug. I put 20 strand Puresound brass wires on it, a collarless Remo snare side, and it came with a coated G1 on it. It has a nice honk.

I paid...

Re: Wearing watches while drumming

I can't wear anything harder than cotton touching my body.

A nice watch does look good though.
