Re: Advice on value of monster vintage Pearl kit

So how does one reach the hanging toms on the far right side....yikes.
Incredible kit though.

Re: Vintage Slingerland

Well congratulations that looks to be pre 1959 Slingerland Gene Krupa Sound King. 1 ply maple. The strainer looks to be replaced from its original but its in great shape for being in a barn. Wow....

Re: Why is jazz drumming still so dominant?

Exact opposite where I live. Blues is not very popular. Many people like blues, but it is not the most popular music to put on for owners of bars and clubs. Actually classic rock or pop is the norm....

Re: Bo's last name

I'm guessing "Weevil" for middle name
So the full name is Bo Weevil Eeder..in my mind. How cool is that.

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

I've been on here for years and threads bashing DW drums are pretty much a minority, like less than 1%. Even when somebody disses, there isn't a total pile on. Most realize its completely juvenile "my...

Re: Premier Royal Ace Info Needed.

Perhaps you've tried the same question on the DFO forum? A lot more old timers who buy/collect/espouse only in vintage stuff (though mostly USA drums).
There are some work-arounds and hacks to use...

Re: These posts I see on Craigslist

These particular c/list ads are directed at NOT having people reply who need a drummer for their basement bands, that rehearses a lot, once a week, and almost never plays out. Some people are not...

Re: Kick Snare & Hat

Hmmm, I wouldn't make any judgment of a drummer on stage based on numbers of drums/cymbals/tools. This gent right here, tens of sounds with 3 components

Re: Anyone here ever lose their "mojo" for music/drums? I'm at a crossroads..............

In several bands, freelance jazz gigs, and teaching once per week....all outside a day job, well that sounds like your plate is very full.
Not getting excited about gear? Expected, you've been at...

Re: more info about 17" floor tom?

Its only 12 deep, so would look odd with legs.
Could drill it for a Keystone or similar mount system and hang it off cymbal stand. An Atlas mount would not work for center lugs.

Re: Should I?

Are you sure the Tama is any lighter? I see a lot of metal and die cast hoops, unlike the Yammie.
Most of the metal I see in the pics weighs more than any change in numbers of plies.

Re: The 8 lug snare drum

What an honest observation Larry. All those expensive drums and the PP comes out on top.
Been playing an 8 lug 1950's Radio King for the last year (changed from a Supra)
10 to 8 really opens a drum...

Re: Musical memory

These songs have a HOOK. I can't stand lot of pop songs that I can hear very well in my head (and sometimes never leave). Subconscious mind is also running in parallel with its own set of actions...

Re: Metal bass drum hoops - not so bad

Nice. Metal hoops on MIJ stencil kits say 'cheap' to everybody but actually make some of those MIJ bass drums sing. A lot of MIJ kits have some nice bass drum tones. Metal bass drum hoops get a bad...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Nope.
You remove the 'hunk of crap' (tom mount) and then its not a bit harder to get in your drum bag.

Re: Percussionist Getting on my Nerves

Geez I don't know, but is it possible this is at least part of the problem?
If you want change you have to instill it. Confront the situation and see how he fares, see the band's response, and if...

As noted above, plenty of resources to get started on the...

Re: Doubles around the kit

Why not just work more on those two surfaces, if they are the ones causing difficulty. One could work hours on just doubles on hats or between hats and snare.

Re: R.I.P Ted Mckenna

Wow, I know him from Rory Gallagher records. Always noticed his playing.
Awful outcome from an elective surgery, but sounds like he lived a full life. RIP

Re: Just bought a 1948 Radio King

Nice.....and in good condition. Iconic snare drum.
I have a late 50's RK but with stick saver hoops, my fave snare I've ever owned.

Re: Anyone ever regret wrapping a drum set?

I also re-painted a kit and regretted it. Not right away, but long term a year or so. This then led to selling drums I otherwise once loved.
I think you would de-value the drums, but that seems not...

Re: Who is depicted on the LZ2 album cover?

Cool. Used to stare at the cover for hours.
I always thought the woman was Lucille Ball, way out to lunch on that one.
