Re: For the jazzers...some recommendations please.

One of my favorite Monk albums is Underground. You also mentioned Wayne Shorter. One of my favorite albums of his is Speak No Evil.

I am thinking of getting some sort of small jazz kit. I have researched various options, and have finally decided to 'make' my own.

What I mean is that I don't have the money to spend $3,000 on...

Re: New Cymbal Ideas?

I always thought (as an experiment) to make, like, a 'bastard' cymbal. Have one straight...

Re: Underrated Drummers

Dave King - His playing with The Bad Plus is so skilled and creative. Not to mention he has amazing chops.

Ben Riley - He is the drummer on the Thelonious Monk's Underground. I really love how...

Re: The pros and cons ... or the cons of pros

So, I was also considering playing drums for a living after college, but it seems like I would have more freedom and fun playing the drums if I had a steady income outside of drumming. Is this true...

Re: Looking for Ska, learning material

If you are looking for a punk ska band, then Streetlight Manifesto is perfect. Not only are they punk ska, but they are incredible. If you are not looking for punk ska, then look into Five Iron...

Re: Traditional Vs. Matched

Re: Traditional Vs. Matched

[INDENT]Yeah, I guess I did come across as a little harsh, but I meant was that it seems foolish to me that some drummers don't even give traditional a shot. I just think more drummers should get...

Traditional Vs. Matched

Most drummers seem to play one of the matched grips, usually the american grip, whenever they play drumset. I think that is their folly. Traditional (in most cases) is better, at least I think so. ...
