Re: Your practise schedule - Tips and tricks!

Hmm I used to practice technical things all the time but I rarely do anymore. I always keep my technique in mind when I play, but I don't obsess over it. These days I'm always focused on groove. I...

Re: upbeat 3 4 jazz solo

First of all nice playing bro props on that, especially for your age. I think your solo was good but overall I think it could have been more musical, and it could have swung harder. Things to...

Re: How much time does everybody practice?

When I first started I averaged 3-7 hours a day of practice that lasted about 6 months and I saw huge improvements. Infact I think my playing was better than a lot of people who I came across who had...

Re: Slowly learning to play open handed

Hmm I tried open handed for about 2 months and got a pretty good feel for it but then I heard you have to cut your hi-hat pole and lower it a lot to get the most out of open handed playing. I decided...

Re: Djembe help needed!

Thank you to everyone who posted I appreciate it. Yes, I would prefer to approach the instrument the same way they do in West Africa as opposed to a western approach. I will definitely read up on...

Re: Your thoughts on metal drummers?

From my experience I would say that metal drummers are overrated by your average joes but underrated by other drummers. I agree it has to do with the whole snob attitude. Personally I'm not a fan of...

Re: Left foot clave is soooo last year...

Nah on Brazilian or Cuban Idol you would have someone playing timbales, congas, bongos, cow bell, clave, guiero etc. Yes the drum set replaced a bass drum player and a cymbal player. but you can't...

Re: Question about Bonham

Thanks but I actually meant triplets as like two hits with the hands and one with the bass drum. Your right I think it would be impossible to do the kind of triplet thing you're talking about at...

Re: Left foot clave is soooo last year...

Ya it's a musical solo but I'm not sure how useful it is. You'll never be able to sound as good as an entire percussion ensemble and I can't think of any musical situations where you would use this....

Re: How Do You Warm Up?

I always stretch for a couple of mintues than I usually warm up on the pad for 20-30 mins. I work on singles, doubles, moeller, and other rudiments from slow to fast, quiet to loud. I start really...

Re: Soloing over Samba Foot Pattern

Ya I used to have the exact same problem. I fixed it by first getting the independence down than learning the feel. Practice rudiments/stickings over the foot ostinato until it's really comfortable....
