Re: What are your stories of when people found out you are drummer?

I've never had anyone say "Hey that's totally cool! You're the first drummer I've ever met. That's way cool you play drums!"

Re: What are your stories of when people found out you are drummer?

Way back in the early 70's, whenever someone found out I was studying drums, I continuously got asked "You play drums? Hey can you play Wipeout?"

Re: What are your stories of when people found out you are drummer?

People always seem to then tell me about a friend or relative who is always happens to be the most talented drummer ever.

Man this happens to me most of the time when people find out I'm a...

Re: Adding a new drummer to the rotation

I was concerned about that also. In fact, this has been at the back of my mind for a year or so because I knew this kid was studying percussion and interested, I just was waiting until he mentioned...

Adding a new drummer to the rotation

After a 4 month long break from playing in my church's praise band, I came back about 3 weeks ago refreshed, recharged, and ready to get back on the throne, so to speak. While I was gone many...

Re: My bizarre, ego-destroying experience

Wow! Un-freaking-believable! THAT is cockiness and egotism at it's very best. Although it sounds like your trumpet friend meant well, his timing and delivery was horrible.

I agree with picodon...

Re: celebrate what would have been his 60th

He's not really gone is he? We still have his influence - those many he influenced in big and small ways, and we'll always have his music.

Re: Pro Ludwig, Anti Guitar Center

Not that I want to slam some company, but I had a similar experience with the Guitar Center in Fort Worth on Hulen street. Turns out I looked on Ludwigs website for an "authorized dealer" and was...

Re: Drum lesson with famous drummer....

I think it would be fun to have a group lesson with Bermuda. :)

Re: Drum lesson with famous drummer....

I think speculating on dead is a little over-reaching

I don't believe so. I would love to have had the opportunity to study with Ed Shaughnessy and/or Joe Morello. Shaughnessy to learn about...

Drum lesson with famous drummer....

IF you could have a drum lesson or two with a famous drummer, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Re: Drummers you like on youtube

Jason McGeer of Death Cab for Cuite has some good stuff on rudamental techniques and Karl Brazil are some of my favorites. Although I've been getting into the UNT One O'Clock Lab bands and various...

Re: Where to go after playing on cruise ships?

Agree with all that's been said so far. My 2 cents is to maybe study at a school that offers dual training / degrees. Example degree in Music AND Business or Computer Science or where your...

Re: Going with a 20 inch kick now

Oh cool! Thank you! That is encouraging news. I started to get self-conscious last night because here was this massive 24 inch Ludwig behemoth kick drum sitting next to a 20 inch MIJ blue sparkle...

Going with a 20 inch kick now

This is one of those things that has been eating away at me for some time. The Ludwig Epic Euro kit I got on eBay about 2 years ago came with a 24" kick but was advertised on eBay as a 22". After...

Tilting the snare

Does anybody tilt the snare anymore? When I was a wee lad it seemed like everyone tilted the snare either away from them (like Buddy Rich), or tilted it towards them. Some tilted it towards the...

Re: Letting others borrow equipment

Ouch! Kind of like the neighbor who always borrows stuff and never returns it.

Re: Letting others borrow equipment

I let my friend borrow my 1976 Ludwig Acrolite because 1) he's a good friend who helped me out in a non-music jam once, 2) I travel in the same circles music-wise as he does, 3) I know roughly a lot...

Re: Musicians who don't want to rehearse

This band is blues and rock covers plus originals. We play the covers a bit differently and both have breaks and solos scattered throughout, so the covers aren't played exactly like recorded or on...

Musicians who don't want to rehearse

Man did I ever learn my lesson! Geez!

Get this, I FINALLY got my snare back this weekend after being told 6 months ago the project wouldn't last any longer than a month. Turns out the project...

Re: The tip jar

It depends on the venue down here in Texas. A lot of times bands have tips jars with the blinking light thing inside. A lot of times instead of announcing the tip jar, someone affiliated with the...

Re: Bar owner double booked us!! RANT!!

That is a very good idea to get it in writing the band gets a cancellation fee if the venue cancels. I would not have thought of that but it makes perfect sense. Great suggestion!

Years ago the...
