Re: What do you say when....

I basically agree with everything that they say, and go and play my set like I normally would. Then they'd come up and say it sounded better the way you did it. And just leave it at that....

Re: Snare help :)

I can't be biased to a certain brand, damn!!! Well then I would buy'em all!!!

Seriously I've read some awesome things about the Dixon Brady snares. They are very well put together, and for the...

Re: Drum Snobs

He was setting up gear, but here's the thing, he didn't even play them drums! But either way who knows. I played one hell of gig that night... That's all that really matters...

Re: The Douchiest Drummers of All Time

Can't believe that Phil is on this list... Maybe the person who made this list up is a douche....

Re: The Douchiest Drummers of All Time

Agree with the number 1 being Lars Ulrich. I never really liked the dude or Metallica for that matter. I prefer Megadeth personally!!!

Re: Drum Snobs

Yeah maybe, but even still I think you'd want to chat with a fellow musician to kinda calm the nerves down. I do that to get me settled in... That's just me though.

Re: Snare is not cutting through!

I recommend cranking that bottom head. I crank my bottom heads and my snares really cut through the music. I play Alternative Hip-Hop so the snare needs to stand out. I also play mainly...

Re: Drum Snobs

Just recently at a gig, I was trying to strike a conversation with the drummer that was opening up for us. He just seemed to not want to have anything to do with me. We were talking about drums and...

Re: premier maple kit

Both are nice kits. Give'em both an offer if they are still available and see what you can get. Thats what I'd do..

Re: Myths of recording studio drums?

Yes. I'm usually first to track and the others use me as the click. They will build their parts around me. I'm usually recording to a "scratch" track, and they build from there.
I've been in the...

Re: Drummers that overplay

Couldn't agree with you more on that one... I had said something like this in the Carter Beauford thread. I love Carter, but sometimes what he is doing, really begins to be to distracting for the...

Re: Anyone ever compete in the GC drum off?

I competed 3x here in Chicago. It was great experience, and you get to see a lot of the local raw talent. Some of them go for the pure enjoyment and some go for the pure thrill of being in the...

Re: Drummers that overplay

I agree with the OP, that we sometimes tend to overplay and take away from the music. Maybe I'm old school, and during our set's I don't do a whole lot of fills. I tend to keep a solid groove and...

Re: Some indie shops not trying hard enough?

I see that here in Chicago as well. Now what I find more discerning is that I often find that the INDIE shop's are more expensive than the big box shop, but you'll more than likely find a rare gem...

I want to say thats the ending of Halloween from the Recently album, his big drum solo at the end!!!

Re: Drummers who have influenced you

My big 5 in order are...

1. Neil Peart
2. Mike Portnoy
3. Simon Phillips
4. Dave Weckl
5. Jeff Porcaro

Each one has their own unique character that has helped me create my own sound. I can...

Re: How do YOU define a "quality" drum sound?

Different types of woods, the way the grain is going will affect the sound of the drums, not only those characteristics but also the type of heads and tuning. The biggest one would be the player...

Re: Why use traditional grip on drumset?

I use mostly trad grip on the drum-set for a powerful back beat for the music I play, which is Alternative Hip-Hop. I find using it has allowed my left hand to move faster around the kit, a...

Re: Practice routine for a serious drummer

I'm a found believer of studying and trying to master technique. You'll probably never master technique, because as drummers, we always love to try something new and learn things that we haven't...

Re: Metal vs Wood Snare Drums

It's seems as if the playing field is about even for the wood players and metal drum players.
