Re: Top Secret Drum Corps

Thanks for posting, but... well it's not that great. There are an awful lot of better drumlines. Awful lot. Snares were very dirty, bass parts were usually simple and rarely split.

Just look up...

Re: The Boxer Stroke

Ever played quads in a marching band? The scrape/sweep (whatever you choose to call it) is essentially the same thing; a double stroke between drums. But still, very nice video. Cool way to apply it.

Re: What song are you playing on drums?

Escape From Oakland by David Garibaldi and whatever members of ToP were with him at the particular time.

It's in one of his books, I can't recall the title right now. Great groove.

Re: Chick Corea on the drums

This was actually posted a little while back, but it's worth another look. Pretty cool.

Re: Marching Band

Sophomore quad at Dublin Jerome High School. My drumming ability just about quintoupled after my freshman year on quads.

I'm albeit guaranteed the position of section head next year. Sweet. I'm...

Re: You know you're addicted to drumming when...

So true... especially when you're involved in a high school marching band. Walking out-of-time whle listening to a song becomes a physical impossibility.

Re: Marching Season!!

My line's got four snares, two quads, of which I am one, and five basses. Not sure how many pit people... 8ish?

We're doing three symphonic dances from Leonard Cohen's On the Town. Pretty cool...

Aww, man... I was gonna guess it was Steve, but you guys beat me to it! Love the jam, though.

Re: What Band influences you the Most?

At this particular point in time - David Garibaldi with ToP. Maybe that's because I'm listening to "What is Hip"; maybe not. I don't really have one influence, I just absorb as much as I can.

Re: How did you discover Drummerwold?

I think my dad showed me an animated video of Neil Peart playing YYZ. I was about... 10 years old?

That was 5 years ago. But I joined the forums about a month or two ago. How the forum managed to...

Re: What's the last song that completely blew you away?

Capetown by the Yellowjackets. I believe there's a link on William Kennedy's DW page.

Now there's a groove.

Re: Trouble with Double Strokes/Paradiddles

I gotta disagree a little bit there. Playing 2 distinct strokes and playing a diddle are two very different things. Playing 2 strokes is, well, playing 2 strokes - the wrist moves up and down, up and...

I second that. The service there is just excellent. They're always concerned with getting you the best quality stuff for what your looking for, not just the most expensive stuff.

Re: Breaking sticks... Good? Bad?

I've been playin' for three years and had never broken a stick until about 6 weeks ago. The top part split in two. Then I got the same kind of sticks as replacements (Vic Firth 2B Nylons), and the...

Re: Whoa!!!!!!!! who needs this

Yeah my school has that drum too (5th one here). Personally I HATE it. I don't really hear it enough to explain why, but I just really don't like it. I can't picture it sounding good in any context....

Re: For the Young Guns: What Is Your Goal?

I'm 14 right now (15 next week) and I've been playing for... three years? Yeah, three years.

Anyway, my "dreams" in drumming are kinda blurry right now. I don't see it as being a full time career...

Re: Rock Band Drummers (fake drummers)

I kinda agree, but actually most "Rock Band Drummers" are pretty humble, and I've seen some videos where comments will say "OMG yer awesome at drumz!", and the video maker will say something like...

Re: Odd things you do while you drum....

I've noticed myself sort of saying what I play. Like boom-chucking along. It's only under my breath, and it doesn't happen alot, but it's kinda fun when it does :P.

Took the words out of my, uhrm, keyboard. I think the title of this thread should be "Good drummers are natural intellectuals."

Re: Drummers you like but can't stand their music?

I was about to say something about him. His name's Andrea Vadrucci and he's awesome, but his band SUCKS. They're a metal band, and the singer is beyond obnoxious. But he makes up for it.
