Re: The Guru Sessions- official videos

Good god how enormous these drums sound though they're not big in size. That 14" tom being tuned a bit too low for the mic situation they're in? When it gets played near that 12" and you can just...

Re: design for a bass dampening system

To make the feel of the bass drum more "dead" (something I prefer too, and have no idea why) rather than one with high rebound is simply to change your tuning. I think it was in a Bob Gatzen video...

Re: Slingerland Price Check!

Looks like you're trying to use links to something inside an email... that's all secure stuff and Google would never let that happen for security reasons.

Upload the pictures elsewhere, either on...

Re: Famous drummers you have met

While I'd hope for this to change at some point, at the moment the only one I've ever had the pleasure of MEETING before/during/after a show at all would be Ryan Van Poederooyen

Re: Help with insane time signature?

Yeah... Just because there's some downtuned (and even baritone) guitar in the music doesn't even make it close to that.

Re: Spicing up metal drumming

I'm glad you posted that video link because now I feel awful for not mentioning Dirk.

Look up anything and everything the man does and has been a part of. All of it is brilliant, my personal...

Re: Spicing up metal drumming

Aside from the obvious "listen to other music as well" that's already been suggested, I have a few drummers I'll most definitely suggest listening to who always keep things interesting even if...

Re: How does gravity affect drum tone

If I had to guess, I would assume everything would be more focused and muted and wouldn't resonate as long if we were talking about a higher gravitational pull. I haven't worked with vibrations just...

Re: Sonor ProLites just unpacked!

Good god those are gorgeous. My dream finish and the only thing I would change in the sizes are the depths on the bass drum and 12" tom.

Awesome post!

Re: Drum Practice (Speed, Endurance) And Weightlifting

I think the idea is that if you bulk up, rather than make longer and leaner muscles built more for endurance and speed, that it can be a detriment. But if you make working on this endurance and speed...

Re: Help with insane time signature?

I think if you want to think of it as an X/4 time signature, 45/16 simplifies down to 9/4 so if you count the quarter note pulse out it will resolve every 9 beats. Other than that Luke's analysis...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

To answer your question... 7/4 is just two bars of 7/8. It's more in the way it's felt rather than the way it's counted if that makes any sense. They're both technically the same thing, it's whether...

Re: Anything compare to Mapex Saturns?

Even just from every sound sample I've ever heard, I think the Saturns are the better sounding drums over the Orions anyways... if Mapex would make a custom line of drums using all of their ply/wood...

Re: Ever fit a 22" BD to a 26" BD? Dirk Did!

Dirk is really probably one of the greatest metal drummers to ever live. I've listened to Soilwork and everything before and never realized it was his playing, it was when I found out he was...

Re: So this is it. Crunch time for the new drums!

This thread gets me excited and I don't even know what's exactly going on after that post-test... post.

I think this whole idea has been a winner from the start, bumps in the road and all.

Re: All this talk of Trip-lets has got me thinking..

Now this I disagree with. If you play odd-time stuff and play those sorts of things properly you can make either feel groove... REALLY HARD, as though it's in 4/4, which is an amazing concept.

And since I always have to bring up good ol' Dennis from Spawn of...
