Re: The Funklet

Kinda a MIDI hybrid. But yeah why reinvent notation? Will you get MIDI files with the purchase?

Really dig the funk jam video! Groovy!

Anyone else seen this guy?

Says to use your middle finger but then is seen later in the video playing with an awkward grip adjusting somewhere between the two....

Re: Half-Time Paradiddle Groove

I agree! I've been practicing a ton of paradiddle grooves lately, I find this inversion works great for a HH/SNR groove:

RLLR LRRL RLLR LRRL

This sticking makes it easier to line up your kick...

Re: The Rev died today

I just lost a brother under similar circumstances. It pains me to hear about another gone. All the best to the family and friends during this hard time...

Re: What is the proper way to choke a cymbal?

I find it's best not to choke too soon. I try and get the initial attack and decay then choke out the sustain. It really depends on the sound you're going for though.

Re: Do you need to be a good player to be a good teacher?

There is something to be said about people with a knack for teaching. I've taken lessons from some great teachers and some not so great ones but they had one thing in common - they were all...

Re: Seating Arrangement and finding the BPM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the tap tempo function included on most clicks I've used. Just tap along to the beat of the song and voila - there's your BPM.

Re: Value of Pasic?

Play a single stroke with your right hand. Piece of cake.
Play a double stoke with your left. No problem.
Play another double stroke with your right. Yawn...

Now play a 5 stroke roll. Come...

Re: Why you have to practice to go pro

In my humble opinion, it's a bit of a stretch to call sound check 'practice time'. In any case, good for you.

Re: Life is funny

It sure is.

Funny how life tends to even itself out. To think that just the other week you were stiffed at a gig. Somebody call the karma police!

Re: Hear me out please.

Funny you should mention the doctor thing. A friend of mine who plays the bass (damn well may I add) told me tonight that if the music thing doesn't work out, he'll just be a doctor. I laughed, but...

Re: PROTECT YOUR EARS - ear plugs, hearing loss, deafness

I had a bit of a scare the other day.

Though I usually use my Vic Firth isolation headphones, I was at a friends house jamming on his gear without any protection. Afterward we were outside and I...

Re: Questions about 4 piece drum set up. What do you think?

Well, I don't play deathcore but I'll tell you, I stripped my kit from 6 to 4 a while ago and I've never looked back. Let's weigh this out.

Pros:

- Comfortable ride positioning.
- Saves...

Re: Conceptual vs physical development

Yes, I believe most progression is made mentally - but only after a certain point.

It feels like a long time ago but does anyone remember what it was like just starting? When your limbs refused...

Wow, Winnipeg - who knew? Sounds like an awesome time though.

I wonder what all those NHLers were doing there - maybe a secret meeting to discuss the future of the Jets. Isn't it odd that you...

Wow, what a nice suprise eh! Calhoun is something else that's for sure.

I'm actually moving to London in a few weeks. Not soon enough though - have fun.

Maybe he's a collector. Maybe he takes pride in his Ludwigs. I know if I saved up and bought my dream kit I wouldn't rip off the reso head simply because they're not paying me. I'd proudly sail...

Re: Using ride cymbal well

Yeah, I used to have the same problem. I was always beating the thing with the shoulder of my stick until an ex girlfriend of mine introduced me to a method she called 'just the tip'.

In all...
