Re: Poll: do you double bass?

#4. I see little improvement so I usually get discouraged and stop. Some people are just naturally good at it and some are not. I am the latter. I can do some stuff well but sheer speed is not my...

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

You've seen us before in the Your Playing section. Here's a song from a few months ago. No percussion on this one but if you type the band name in YT there's some stuff with the whole band.

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

1. I am in only one band at the moment.

2. An original material, 70s style funk band called the Voodoo Shango Experience. We are an octet with rhythm section, keyboard, horns, and percussion....

Re: How our perspective changes

Totally different situation. On the road you do what you have to. Also not saying pads and edrums are useless. Just that playing real drums is important in the formative years as well as beyond....

Re: How our perspective changes

I have to agree with this. I cut my teeth a long time ago on real drums played loudly in my parents' house. I did so at reasonable hours and never had problems. You can't learn to play properly by...

Re: I pased the audition!

Very cool. I know you've had problems with bands in the past so I hope this works out for you.

Re: What people will pay

You never know what people are ready to pay when something is hard to find. I once bought a PDP 16" LX floor tom for about $150 and I think that's what it's worth. Someone must have really wanted...

Re: Leave Me Alone, rant 2

I'm with Larry on this one. If you feel the need to go up to a drummer and criticize their playing that says more about you than the drummer. The two guys Martha is talking about are clearly douches....

Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

Yours has the knob in that spot too. Guess it's not just the black ones. Maybe just the newer models. Still a weird spot.

Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

I got my Blacro today. It's in pretty much mint condition and is quite a beauty. Sounds great with the stock heads (Rockers Heavy Coated on top and Resonant Snare on the bottom) so I'll probably wear...

Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

I'm pretty sure I'll like it a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes my main snare. I will definitely bring it to the rehearsal space and try to match the sound and compare.

I just tracked...

Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

I will probably put a coated Amb on it. There's an Acro on the kit where I rehearse that I just love the sound of. I'm hoping I can achieve the same sound or close.

Re: My First Ludwig Acrolite

I just bought this snare with the backpack and stand on eBay. I've been wanting an Acro and like the Black Galaxy finish a lot so I pulled the trigger. I've been seeing conflicting opinions on...

Re: Trusting others with your kit?

Cymbals are always a no-no for me except maybe a ride. I recently let a guy use my hats but he was a light player playing jazz mostly on his ride. A bunch of kids? Never. Or never again. I played at...

Re: Recurring dream - drum related

Every time I dream about drumming or playing with a band we always suck hard. Playing is usually difficult and my throne is often too high. I don't want to know what my subconscious is trying to tell...

Re: The matching snare

I think we need to make a distinction between kit snares and matching snares. Sometimes the kit snare doesn't match (although these days it often does, in the past was often chrome) and sometimes the...

Re: Name that rhythm

Another good example of the flat tire is Elvis' I Forgot to Remember to Forget. Cool tune.

Re: Name that rhythm

I'd like to add the songo to the list. One of the few or only latin grooves invented for the drumset. It's fun to play and not overly complex. It's basically linear which makes the coordination a...

Re: hi hat dis-assembly

I disassemble it because I've been using a gym bag with wheels for my hardware. Everything fits but the hi-hat is of course too long so I don't have a choice. No big deal.

Back in my "band in a...

Re: The matching snare

Both my main kits have the matching snare and they were bought separately so it's 100% intentional. I like the look when everything matches but they both happen to sound great as well.

A...
