Re: Drummers who've inspired your playing

- Neil Peart (not the equal of Bonham or Buddy, but I like his playing best)
- John Bonham (the greatest rock drummer)
- Buddy Rich (extreme talent and facility; my take away about buddy more than...

Re: screwed up my first gig

Embrace the mistakes...they will always be there. If they are not, then you are not doing something new or expanding into new territory. You did something new, your first gig, you made some...

Re: Just in case you forgot

Some time ago I commented that I did not care for the look....I've been assimilated. They now look very nice to me.

Interestingly, this finish came up in several spots as I was searching for a...

Re: Standard DW9000 and heel-toe

Maybe you are not clear on heel-toe? I play heel up maybe 95% of the time....heel-toe is a very particular method I use to help grab quick doubles and as part of triplets on kick....for me it is not...

Re: Standard DW9000 and heel-toe

I suspected folks.....well, lots of folks....we're getting by just fine with the std 9000 and heel toe but I wanted to hear others experience...unfortunately due to my foot size, I think it's not...

Re: Standard DW9000 and heel-toe

Exactly and agreed....that is why I think I'm going to sell the std 9000 and get the extended footboard version.

Standard DW9000 and heel-toe

I'm wondering if anyone is using the dw9000 and playing a steady diet of heel toe? I ask because I've had to set mine aside since the relationship has gone sour....the heel plate tears my heel up; I...

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I will never part with my Ludwig Centennial Maple in c thru black. These are not even supposed to be a special drum kit, but the 24x16 kick is the best sounding kick I've heard in 31 years of being a...

Re: Mounting a tom in a snare stand!

Late to the party but great thread....I suspect the number of plies on the shell will be somehow proportional to the effect on the drums resonance when sitting in a snare basket and may be a factor...

Re: The Speed Obsession

To me speed is one tool in the toolbox....it can be very effective and artistic when juxtaposed among non speed items.....just a tool and neat when used sparingly in the right context. Not good and...

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

I like them because I feel they have a purpose....although I would not use one at a gig, I love mine for late night practice and for working on repetitive stuff that really need not be heard...

Re: I need help picking a drumset!

If you are really stuck on getting a shell pack, then +3 on a used stage custom birch....really good stuff.

As others mentioned, you are good to go with your current shells though....heads,...

Re: Bad Auditions

I understand the irritation. They were a bit disingenuous in their initial review after the jam....but it could be anything from playing, to clothes, to age to weight to gender, to a dislikement of a...

Re: Some thoughts on keeping time

Time keeping is very important....it's very important to stay on point and not overplay and that is not always easy....allowing the vocabulary to reveal itself over time, while keeping time, is not...

Casey....good on you for your motivation and skill in creating a well watched and known brand. I honestly find that very impressive and inspiring....I do not find your playing to be impressive or...

Re: Modern Drummer March 2014 issue - why do they do this?

I enjoyed this MD list and, for what it is worth, I agree with most of the names on there. However, I was surprised not to see Ian Paice....or did I miss it??

I would humbly submit that Ian...

Re: Want to go to Berklee for Music Ed degree - unrealistic?

It's never too late to achieve a goal. The more challenging the better so something being *difficult* should be a consideration but not a deterrent. It can be a challenge and a motivator.

To me,...

Re: My humble take on good drummers and OK drummers

the original post is not answerable...there is no answer; everyone likes something different and you are certainly welcome to dislike flashy players; for the most part so do I, however, there is...

Re: I don't know whether to take this tour or not

If drumming professionally has been your goal, i don't think there is any way you can put a value on the new contacts, more eyes on your playing and the diversification.

the gfriend will have to...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Gear is overrated. One does not need an expensive shell pack, or just the right so and so heads, wood composition, etc, etc to get great drum sounds. A basic pearl vision or similar can sound great...

Re: Chili Peppers should have stayed home.

Interesting thoughts.

I don't mean this in a negative way, just an indifferent way, but I'm not a fan of the RHCP. I recognize they are very talented though. I've recently become very impressed...

Re: A new model for record labels?

Excellent thread and thoughts by all...it's all valid. My perspective on this topic is that the real enemy to sales is "access". All of the downloading and visibility and instant gratification...
