Re: I can't play and count out loud.oh!

Surely 'caterpillar' is for sixteenths rather than eighths?

Re: What kind of drum or set to get 5 year old daughter who love drums?

Or, equally if not more likely, she bangs on it for two days then runs off to play with something else and forgets the drums even exist.

Re: Daily practice routine?

Well, I must say I envy you guys who have routines like the one above for having the time and the drive to spend two or three hours doing just paradiddles or single strokes. I can't imagine doing it...

Re: What kind of drum or set to get 5 year old daughter who love drums?

Jesus Christ man, put down the credit card. Get her a practice pad or a kit designed for kids because if you get her an HD-1, dollars to doughnuts she decided she doesn't like playing the drums any...

Re: If you knew then what you know now...

I'm actually still on my battered piece of crap like the one Kettles mentioned, but - and I'm fairly sure I'm alone in having this point of view - I'm actually quite happy with it. My logic has been...

Re: Left hand speed ( blast beats )

On a whim (also because my right foot had gone to sleep) I tried doing this yesterday, and my God that was difficult. I can play left foot bass OK so long as I'm riding with my right hand, but trying...

Re: Greatest Rock Supergroup ?

Drums - Stewart Copeland
Bass - Flea
Lead guitar - Jimmy Page
Rhythm guitar - Keith Richards
Vocals - Axl Rose

Now, before you jump down my throat about the last one, let me state I'm very...

Re: Practicing bass drum

...I'm sure you've got a reason and it's quite possible you've just expressed your point poorly, but I'm drawing a complete blank on how one even can practice playing the bass drum without using...

Re: DrumSheetMusic.net Free Transcriptions

Transcriptions and tabs for the Black Keys seem to be quite thin on the ground, particularly of things from the latest album (Brothers). In particular, I'd like to see ones for Ten Cent Pistol, The...

Re: Will tab out any song

Because it's easy to write? I'd bet it's a damn sight easier to write than using Musicscore or other dedicated programs, not least because it requires a keyboard and nothing else. And if it's...

Re: Will tab out any song

Maybe he doesn't have access to Finale or Sibelius or one of the other nice programs? Maybe he figured, rightly, that the only difference between tabs and formal notation is the presentation and the...

Sensible questions to ask a prospective teacher

I have to admit, I feel like all I'm doing here at the moment is asking questions. I sense this might get annoying.

Long story short - after losing my job just before I was planning to start...

Re: Mad Men

Neither do I, I'm British. Best way to describe Mad Men is just as a drama (or 'period drama' if you want to go with Wikipedia).

Agreed. For one, it's not a sitcom.

Re: Clicking noise on 'Black Dog'

Tallies with the story I heard. JPJ wrote the song in some complex measure (I think 3/16), then Bonham ignored it and just played in 4/4 all the way through.

Re: Documentary for new Dream Theater drummer and their choice of Mike Mangini....

Maybe - just maybe - they didn't get on as well with them as they did with Mike? I read the Rhythm interview he did a couple of months ago and he made the same point - if you're going to be sharing a...

Re: How to "dispose" of a drum

Two questions - where are you based and how much are/were you asking? In fact, make it a third - can you send me the link to the eBay auction?

Evolution of Blast Beats is the title you were after, I think.

Re: What's going on here?

So I was almost right, open the hats on the downbeats rather than the upbeats. Kicks during the verse come on 1, 3 and 3+, remove the hi-hat work and it's the basic rock beat.

What's going on here?

Evenin' all. After advice from some ears more experienced than mine to decipher the verse groove from Gunman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F9MaFyeQGo), by Them Crooked Vultures. What's stumping me...

Re: Tama Swingstar vs Imperialstar

Not exactly. It's more like:

good drums + good heads = excellent sound (if tuned right)
poor drums + good heads = solid sound (enough to get by on)
good drums + poor heads = below-average sound...

Re: Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson

Second. The thing I find so tremendous about it is that it's damn near exclusively played with eighths and it's not a groove with a lot of tricky sticking patterns to work through, yet he still makes...

Re: What song are you playing on drums?

Coming up with a drum part for Girl With One Eye [Florence and the Machine] because a friend of mine plays and sings that at a nearby open mic place and I'd like to join her at some point. Idly...

Re: DRUM INSTRUCTION DVD & BOOK REVIEWS

A quick note of thanks to this thread for pointing me in the right direction. I was about to post asking for suggestions on 'essential' books before I saw this, and...well, my copy of Stick Control...
