Re: Ludwig LM402

I'd say that's an accurate description. The box it was shipped in from Ludwig even said Black Magic, but it's got Joey's graphics, Badge,
and his signature on a paper decal affixed to the interior...

Re: Ludwig LM402

The 402 I bought a little over a year ago had them. I removed the gaskets, and it sounds like 402 should. I recently bought a Ludwig
Joey Kramer (brass shell) snare. It has tube lugs, but no gasket...

Re: How have you found a band?

Look on "craigslist" craigslist > community > musicians or hang out at a busy Music Store.

Re: Playing in a band VS Playing alone

When your playing along to tracks, you know what to expect. The bass player is always playing the same groove (and probably in good meter) and
there are vocal queues that always happen in the right...

Re: A great gigging weekend, but this old fart's exhausted.

Great pics, and it looks like a nice venue to play. I'm the same age, but I usually don't feel like it until the day after the gig. Don't worry about resting; you can do that after your dead ;)

Re: Which kit should I choose ? Basix vs Ludwig

Those sizes (20" kick and 14" floor) are better suited for Jazz. I play Ludwig myself, but I'd say stick with what you have until you can get a deal on a kit with the right sizes for Classic Rock.

Re: Good In-Ear Earphones/Monitors for drumming?

For the past few months I've been using a pair of Shure SCL5 in ear monitors. They're dual driver, sound great, seal well and have a durable cable. This model has been replaced
in the Shure product...

Re: Sparkle vs Natural Finishes

I have a '82 Tama Superstar kit with the Super Mahogany finish. It's a great kit and I used to get tons of compliments on the finish at the end of the night when all the lights were on.
They never...

Re: die cast hoops

Die Cast hoops are supposedly better for keeping a drum in tune because of their stiffness; if one of the lug screws becomes loose, you won't notice
as much. I don't care for die cast hoops,...

Re: Tactical Approach Tips Needed !!!!!

Are you able to lock-up with him when he's playing simple time? It could be that he's just inexperienced and hasn't put in the practice time that would allow him to play with confidence and not rush...

Re: Vintage Vs. New Supraphonic

I got a new 402 about five months ago and the first thing I did after playing it a few minutes was to disassemble it and remove all the rubber gaskets. It sounded more open and like a 402 "should"...

Re: Ludwig Centennial vs. Ludwig Element SE Retro

I have a couple of Ludwig kits, and one of them is a Centennial. As others have said, the toms are very versatile, but the the kick is an almost ridiculous depth at 20". I hated lugging it around as...

Re: Giant Beat Compatibility?

I have 15" Giant Beat hats and 18" crash mixed with 2002 and Signature line. My 2002 splash sounds great with Giant beats. I recently added a Sabian O-Zone 18" AAX crash. It has a short trashy china...

Re: Drum Recording

Have you heard any tracks this guy has recorded? Ask him for some samples of what sound he's going for. If it's the same sound you want, do what he says. If you're not impressed by anything he's done...

Re: When To Leave The Band

This is good advice. I would also add: play every gig as if the band was in its hey day, you never know who will be in the audience. There are always musicians from other bands in the venues we play...

Re: Jim Riley

I attended a clinic this past July where Jim Riley was featured along with Steve Fidyk. They both did an outstanding job. If you get a chance to see either one of these guys you should go. Many...

Re: Ludwig Legacy Classic or Canopus Sword Bop?

I have a Legacy Classic kit and couldn't be happier with it. I think the kick sounds particularly good. I went with an old school 14" depth, and the 3 ply shell gives it a nice deep low end.

Re: My New Ludwig Centennials (good and bad news!)

I have almost the same set of Centennials as you do and after close inspection they're almost perfect. I also bought a Legacy Classic kit, and those were flawless as well. I think any manufacturer is...

Re: Looking for Funk songs/albums to play along too

You might also look up Maceo Parker (who played with James Brown). "Funkoverload" and "Life on Planet Groove". A couple of cuts on Planet Groove will wear you out 11 and 16 minutes long. Fun Stuff....

Re: Studio annoyance; venting! proceed with caution!

Bingo. I was thinking the same thing. The engineer has the gate settings too aggressive and doesn't know how to fix it and he's going on the offensive to shut down any questions about it.

Re: Stop ear damage!!

I had more than a few nights like that and after one particularly loud evening and ringing in my ears that persisted into the following morning, I decided to do something. I tried using Hearos, but...

Re: Is Ludwig Classic Maple tom's sound always vintage?

I recently purchased a new Ludwig Legacy Classic kit because I wanted the vintage sound. I was so certain I wouldn't want the stock heads that I had already purchased replacements before the drums...

Re: Question about drumming and dancing

I remember a girl telling me "you dance like a drummer". She knew I played drums, but I knew from her laugh that it wasn't meant as a compliment.

Re: Does being a musician reduce your listening pleasure?

It would be interesting to hear music from the non-musicians point of view if only to figure out why they would listen to some of the pop songs out there, but I'm happy to be afflicted with being a...
