Re: Starclassic Bubinga - thoughts?

I have had mine since they first came out and the thought of another kit never enters my mind. Every day I am astonished by how good they sound. My only hesitation in recommending them to you would...

Re: Tama Special Order Wait Time?

I ordered two new toms for my Tama SCB which were both special orders. I was told 8 weeks and they arrived in 7 weeks.

Re: Tama SC Bubinga: A Christmas gift to myself :D

I have owned a SCB since they first came out and added a special order 8" tom. Mine has one of the original finishes. I am not exactly sure when I got it but it must be at least two years ago.

I...

Re: Derek Roddy

Hi Derek,

I bought your book yesterday; it was sitting in the guitar section of my local music store! I haven't had a chance to try out any of the exercises yet but I really enjoyed what you had...

Re: Tama Starclassic Performer B/B question

Thats odd. All three of my local GCs have one Starclassic B/B and one Starclassic Bubinga in stock. It is possible that these drums are limited to a certain number for each store.

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Hi Gavin,

I wanted to share something with you that might amuse you.

I have been a big PT fan since the early days. A few years ago, just after you joined the band, I stumbled on a video on the...

Re: Price/quality, what can you do with 2500$?

At the risk of stating the obvious, I would go to a bunch of drum stores and try everything you can lay your sticks on. As you know, Portnoy is a Tama/Sabian endorser and used to be a Mapex endorser...

Re: TAMA STARCLASSIC MAPLE!!??

I am sure you can't go wrong with a starclassic kit or almost any other high end kit from a respected manufacturer like Pearl and DW. It is largely a matter of taste.

Get out and try the SC...

Re: Rack locks keep slipping round, with toms on.

What model clamp are you using? The heavier duty clamps have more surface area so that might help. Honestly, I have never seen anyone mount a pair of toms on a single clamp because you are developing...

No.... B/B performer kits in a limited number of wraps are now available exclusively through GC in the US.

Re: How much do you think I can sell this roland kit for?

Your best bet would be to sell all the components separately on ebay, especially if you are willing to ship overseas.

Re: The Black Panther thread! For all BP snare fans and owners....

I posted a few months ago about the BP Babylonian. I gave up on Mapex USA but the UK Mapex distributor was great and tracked down the last two available in the UK for me. So, they are on their way...

Re: Need advice for buying an acoustic set of drums???

If you want a kit that is not in stock at the store, ask them to call Tama and see if they have one in the warehouse. I did this with my SC and got the finish I wanted within 3 days. GC can be pretty...

Re: Need advice for buying an acoustic set of drums???

This is really good advice. One smaller company you might want to consider is Saluda, if you buy new, but used is by far the best option if your son decides exactly what he wants. If you are looking...

Re: Need advice for buying an acoustic set of drums???

I just wanted to add a comment in light of the recommendations for the Starclassic Performer. In my previous post I was comparing the Mapex Saturn to the regular Starclassic Maple. The Performer...

Re: Need advice for buying an acoustic set of drums???

After using an electronic kit for a while I just got back into an acoustic set so I know exactly what you are going through!

First, I think it would be helpful to know if you budget would have to...

Re: Best mass produced kit for about $2500

I am sure that all these suggestions are for great kits, but please don;t buy anything until you have sat behind a Tama Starclassic Bubinga. The sound is a bit different from your standard maple kit...

Re: Starclassic Bubinga Omni-Tune

I just got a set of the Starclassic Bubingas without the omni-tune rig. They are absolutely remarkable drums that sound like nothing I have ever tried before. Deep, warm, yet powerful. If you like...

Re: The Black Panther thread! For all BP snare fans and owners....

I really love the Black Panther Babylonian that Mapex released a year or so ago. I saw a couple in the UK but I have never seen one in the US. I am still searching so if anyone has a line on one,...

Re: DW Collectors or Craviotto Snare

Hi Jazzbo,

It was tagged at $429.99 which seems like a good price given what the official Canopus price list said. Of all the snares on the Canopus site it seemed to look most like the Zelnova you...

Re: DW Collectors or Craviotto Snare

Thanks so much!

With the correct spelling I found the website easily. They seem like nice drums. This was a wood drum so I guess it must be their maple shell model although it didn't look like...

Re: DW Collectors or Craviotto Snare

Thanks for all the advice. I am patiently looking for an e-bay deal.

In the meantime I checked out a local store that usually just has low end kits but the occasional used snare they get in trade...

Re: Ultimate Speed Goals

Personally I would love to be able to play a groove at 30bpm. Somewhere below 55bpm my brain engages and things start to go all pear shaped.

Re: DW Collectors or Craviotto Snare

Thanks D.C., I wasn't quite sure what you meant by the cheaper one? Do you mean the DW instead of the Craviotto or a ply DW?....

If you are on the DC area I would love to here your opinions about...
