Re: When does sound become music

I think sounds can be musical. But music is more than sounds. There needs to be some information, some organized content, and possibly (but not necessarily) a rhythm or repeating pattern. There has...

Re: My Camco Refurb with pix!

Great Caesar's Ghost! That is one of the most awesomely gorgeous kits I have ever seen. I'd kill for a Camco half as nice as that.

Re: Vintage Drum Bearing Edges

It's hard to tell from the closeup of the edge if the wrap is tucked into the lap joint. Does it appear to you that it is? That's the way Ludwig used to do it. But I thought they had stopped that...

Re: Check out my Remo Acousticons....

Yeah, isn't that crazy? This is a jam that happens every 2 months or so. It's on what I guess you'd call a "horse property" in Thousand Oaks in So. Cal. The owner has converted what used to be a...

Re: Check out my Remo Acousticons....

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try the coke and aluminum foil for the first time with these drums. I think I'm also going to borrow a grinder with a buffing wheel for the bad stuff.

Re: Check out my Remo Acousticons....

Thanks for the warning. I'm keeping the toms tuned pretty low, to get a lower pitch from the small sizes. And I like my snare on the low side too.

Doesn't really make sense because the spurs...

Re: Check out my Remo Acousticons....

My snare serial is 89253. It's a good bet yours was the earlier shell formulation.

Re: Check out my Remo Acousticons....

Looks like the same exact hardware as mine. Was this a 516 shell? I've read about this happening when they got soaked. People say it was more of a problem with the earlier shells, though.

I...

Re: Check out my Remo Acousticons....

Yeah, exactly. I read they had problems with the shells previous to this. These are called 516, which stands for 5/16, their thickness. Hardware is massive and heavy. See the tom mounts? The kick is...

Re: Check out my Remo Acousticons....

I read that it's the early non-Master Touch lugs that had the problem. Mine seem solid, but are rather ugly, if you ask me.

Only other thing I've played was a set of Vistas I used to have, before...

Check out my Remo Acousticons....

Hey boys and girls... I'd like to show you some pictures of my newest acquisition. You don't see too many of these. I've been doing some reading up since I got them about a week ago. They are early...

Re: Help shipping a 24 inch kick

I sold a 24" kick recently on ebay, and discovered that it is ridiculously expensive to ship. The box was an actual Ludwig box, something like 30x30x20. I priced it on UPS and FedEx and they were...

Re: Chewing Gum Instead of Moon Gel?

I can't imagine the moongel tastes as good as gum. I'll stick with chewing good ole wintergreen, thanks.

Can a mediocre drummer start silly/pointless threads on Drummerworld?

There. Someone had to say it. So I said it.

Re: Reggae Drumming

Go study up there, Junior. Marley and crew were in on creating reggae right at the very beginning, as early as rock steady (early 60s). Besides, the OP (6 years ago!) was asking about reggae basics,...

Re: Do you talk drums and drumming with your significant other?

Bucking the trend a bit here...
My wife listens to gear talk as well as band talk. I think she is really interested, to a certain extent. She also likes to hear about my work as graphic designer and...

Re: am i the only one who doesn't like pearl?

I've never really liked them, but I don't have anything against them either.

I do think Pearl makes great hardware. And the Eliminator is my favorite pedal ever.

Re: Help id'ing 1970's Ludwig kit

DUH! I just realized the wraps were painted over, and that silver was original. In that case, AMAZING job restoring them!

Re: Help id'ing 1970's Ludwig kit

My 3-plys are a mix of Granitone and clear interiors. So, yeah, coated heads, at least on top.

What kind of heads are you going with?

Re: Song that gets you out of a funk

Pretty much anything with a good beat. Funk gets me out of a funk any day. Also great for keeping me calm while driving. I commute 2 hours a day in L.A. traffic. Having a good sound system in my car...

Wow, great job! Stunning. Although, as a white cortex fan, I hate to see you not sticking with white! Now all you need are some inlays on the hoops. What did you end up doing with the painted...
