Re: Is it bad to have little or no individuality?

Look at the cymbal setup on my bigger kit, and that will tell you a bit about where I stand on that. Now, the next time I go on a cymbal buying kick, that will change, since ten years or more playing...

Re: How to get rid of rust on rims?

You might need to put a little shot of WD40 on the inside of the tube to penetrate the threads of the hex nut/bolt, and possibly use a strap wrench to grip the tube.

Re: Is it unethical to buy drums made in China?

For the purposes of this forum we have the responsibility to keep it drum related, even if we are dealing with tangential aspects of it. Drumming does not exist in a vacuum, so I think it's valid for...

Re: Is it unethical to buy drums made in China?

I don't think there is a predetermined timeline on it, but we would do better to stop beating each other over the head over nothing, so we can focus on the important stuff and get it done. Surely...

Re: Is it unethical to buy drums made in China?

The transition from agrarian to industrial is usually a messy one. Remember that England and the US were pretty awful polluters when we entered the industrial age, and while we would seem to have...

Re: DW Customer Service

The response you got was typical...as far as these kinds of problems go. They are pretty good at dealing with screw-ups on their end, but they do draw a line as to how far they will go to accommodate...

Re: Less isn't always more?

Going with the food analogy....

Oatmeal with brown sugar sprinkled on it is quite nice and tasty. I also think Buffalo wings are nice and tasty. That does not mean that they are interchangeable....

Re: Tuning to pitches...yes? no?

Not so much for predetermined notes, but I have used intervalic tuning for a couple of decades. As such three toms will get a root/5th/octave tuning, four toms get an arpeggio...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

What I mean is if you have 4 or 5 different sizes of toms, don't worry about their specific sizes, just find a nice little scale that they all play well in and tune away. I read a lot of complaints...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Radia cymbals are super-useful, and a great excuse to have forty cymbals on your kit.

There is no best drummer in the world. Not even Buddy Rich.

Drummers make a lot of excuses for doing/not...

Re: Building a drum shell

I can't remember where I saw it, but some guy made a two-pc. outer mold using MDF, hinged at the center of the circle so he could let the shell out of the mold, and used a "yoga ball" or whatever...

Re: jungle kit creation!!

"Jungle" and Drum n' Bass were electronic dance music genres that relied heavily on sampled drum sounds that were then sped up. Either entire breaks were sampled (see: Amen Brother) and sped up to...

Re: Do drummers lose points for disassembling the moment the show is done?

I stopped reading after this. Most of us tech our own gear, make sure it's not stolen, etc...but this is the biggest component of it all. I would be delusional if I thought that tending to my...

Re: Endorsed to who?

The way I work it is if I shelled out my money for it...I'm endorsing it to a degree.

I do tend to be consistent with my gear, however, so here's the list: DW drums, pedals and hardware, Sabian...

Re: Do You Like Metal Snares?

I have some. I'd like some more (DW is making that Dynasonic copy that I'm VERY interested in). I used to have a Supra and I'd like to get one back into the arsenal. I still have my Gretsch 8-lug...

Re: A new model for record labels?

One thing I can tell you is that I will not stand for a quasi-Marxist redistribution system. The modern solution is that musicians have to be more self-starting. Record labels existed largely as...

Re: A new model for record labels?

I think a lot of this is bemoaning the death of "the old way". Have any of you read the book "Appetite for Self-Destruction" by Steve Knopper? He details how the "plastic sandwich business" destroyed...

Re: Bruno Mars vs Jstin Bieber: who is th better drummer?

Well, I'm used to Denver not winning when it counts (I was there for the 55 to 10 defeat under Elway's charge)...but Bruno opening his show behind a set of DWs and kicking a little ass made up for...

Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

Just found out tonight that the snare I've been calling a 6.5x13 is actually a 7x13. Awesome! That's my favorite snare size anyway (and I don't have to type that stupid 1/2 inch anymore). I only...

Re: Question about DW Collectors shell pitches

I think they are an octave plus the half-step apart. They wouldn't let a 12 and a 16 go out with tones that close together.

Mine does. It's a 2010 6.5x13 with a 10+6 shell. It's noted as a C#,...

Re: Mapex @ NAMM 2014

I'll have to double check, but I'm pretty sure my DW Collector's have a similar cut, and they were made in 2010 or early 2011.

Re: Do you call it a kick drum or bass drum?

I'll use both. Generally, they are used with a bit of muffling and serve to put some earth under the bass guitar, and in that role they are "kicks". Now, if I'm using remote drums that I'm tuning to...

It would be nice if that marine pearl was applied to all of the drums, not just the little kit.

What I really want is an explanation for this-...

Re: NAMM News

Those lugs are regular sized; you can usually tell by looking at the STM grommets.

They are making a Dynasonic knock off. Having owned the real thing, I'm interested in trying it out. I fear the...
