Re: Deantoni Parks

Bumping this for the new Volta album coming out.

He's one of the most solid drummers I've ever heard. I love how he can play solid either around the beat or on the beat.

Drumming while Travelling

I've been wanting to travel the world for awhile now, and I'm looking for an opportunity to volunteer overseas or something, but what's really held me back from doing this is not being able to play...

Re: My perspective on gear

A good drummer can make any kit sound good.

Ive been playing on the same kit, same cymbals, snare, setup, for about 10 years now.

That's always something I'm working toward, being able to make...

Re: Smallest Kits in Metal

Ben Koller from Converge, phenomenal drummer. Billy Rymer from Dillinger Escape Plan, also great drummer.

There are tons more that I can't remember.

Don't know if Periphery counts as Metal, but...

Re: punk drumming help!

Give a good stretch to your fingers and wrists every time you sit down to play.

Make sure you're not absorbing tension into your hands/wrists while you're playing. Stay relaxed.

If this is a...

Re: best drum school?

That is not true.

Ideally you want to go into a reputable program, not X University that has a good football team.

All of the musicians I know who have gone to school said it was not worth it....

Re: Took a bite from an Apple

Wouldn't mind an apple laptop. Mines a custom (no brand custom) just as nice for a fraction of the price (roughly 2/3rds). Same specs/screen size and everything.

Comparing Lou Reed to St. Anger is insulting.

Re: Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

I have two cymbals that I've noticed are getting progressively worse since buying them.

I don't know the exact model names but one is a Sabian Fast Crash that is not as fast sounding as when I...

Re: Giving up the kit. Good or not so smart?

Do both. Play the drums whenever you want to have fun. Pick up some books or whatever if you want to learn new beats. Stick Control never hurts though. I do an exercise in it with my hands then...

Re: Preparing for you first semester at Berklee

That's a feat - congratulations.

I've never gone to Berklee or a Music College, but if I were you, I'd be looking at a list of necessity drum books and going over them front to back, challenging...

Re: Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

Never really thought about that. Right now I have more cymbals, but that's because I can't afford to buy drum heads for more than just tom/snare.

I hate that cymbals start to sound like shit after...

Re: Tips on keeping time while playing with a band!

Make love to the metronome.

Make sure your rhythms never stop and start, or your hands get stuck... both are a sign of timing issues.

Re: Band practice intruders.

It gets pretty distracting having people around. After an hour it seems like they just sit there wanting to leave or do something else but not wanting to be impolite... which is in itself a real...

I took a lesson with Navene Koperweis of Animals as Leaders when they came here on tour. I found out he was giving lessons via their Facebook page.

He signed my CD and taught me how to sustain...

The Comatorium?

This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed is awesome too. Same with that crazy part and the intro in Take the Veil.

Re: Matched vs. French grip on ride

German grip on the bell - feels less awkward on the wrist, and easier to aim.

French grip for little intricacies and faster parts/rebounds.

German grip for power!

Re: Worst bass drum sound ever?

Is this your first time listening to 00's era 'aggressive' metal OP? I'm more worried about the clean vocals in that song than I am about the bass drum. Awful. Tim Yeung is sick though.

Re: Jon Theodore

Really, How'd you find that out? I know a lot of the beats in L'via Lviaquez are Fleming beats.
