Re: Stage volume

Before the next small gig you have why not get a mutual friend of the band to come and act in as a sound guy. He/she could just be someone that tells each member directly if they are too loud.
If...

Re: Lack of Reggae lessons with fills:(

The best advice is just listen to loads of reggae tracks. Reggae drummers such as Carlton Berrett, Sly Dunbar, Steve Nisbett and Winston Grennan are great examples.
I agree that it is overlooked by...

Re: Intros and fills....argh!!!!

Why not try just a really simple beat to start the groove with. I was watching some Robert Glasper and the drummer (Mark Colenburg) just plays a simple small shuffle groove yet still creative. It...

Re: Covers vs Originals... Help required !!!

Why not try a bit of both and make your own version of a cover song.
It can combine what both you and your guitarist want and can also help with your creativity.
Just an idea :)

Re: Can you be a gigging drummer without a drum kit?

I'd say get a cheap kit. If you replace the drum heads and tune it right on beginner kit you can get a good enough sound out of the drums.
If you have cymbals already then you are almost there.

Re: Out of my comfort zone....

Having a foundation in jazz drumming is a great start. Look at drummers like Charlie Watts and Mitch Mitchell. They both have their roots in jazz drumming but have adapted it to a more of a rock and...

Re: Something that got me thinking

Fair enough. I have never tried a MPX piccolo before or heard it live so I can't really comment on that snare.
However, a normal MPX snare, judging from the many good responses, can make a great...

Re: Something that got me thinking

I have the exact same snare (Mapex MPX birch snare 14 X 5.5) and after a lil bit of tuning I have also got many good compliments for the way it sounds. I bought it for around 120 (UK) and I'm very...

Re: Famous Drummers - Off their usual style/genre

Awhile ago I saw a video of Travis Barker perform at the Country Music Awards. He looked quite out of place.
I will see if I can find a video of it or anything

Re: Is it just me, or does this sound wrong?

Does sound a bit off. They may be going for like a delayed sort of feel that drags the listener along into the song. It kinda works a little bit but for a drummer it could seem really off.

Re: Punk Cymbal and floor tom...

Glad I could help :)
I know what you mean about filling the gap. I use the ride a lot as a crash and in a washy way too.
I'm from North London and I'm in a 3 piece band, called Supernothing...

Re: Punk Cymbal and floor tom...

I can't really help about the floor tom but I do have the xs20 16" Crash and also play in a punk rock band. I love the way it sounds and I think it cuts through the music really well. I know what you...
