And I recently bought a 6pc Pearl Export, in really nice shape for $200. Just to kick around and say I bought something :D

Re: How to improve speed and techniques

Yeah, speed is a function of control as well as technique. Since you have been playing for a while, I suggest checking out Jojo Mayer's "Secret Weapons 1" DVD; that, in combination with something...

Re: Jim Gordon

Those are great...also Tom Waits Heart of Saturday Night has some really fine, musical drumming...brush work and all. It took me by surprise a little.

Re: If you had to choose....

Both, there is no way for me to select either one. Vinnie has the monster chops, Gadd no slouch but obviously more of groove and feel stylings.

I choose Jim Gordon, though. His career was over...

Re: Bid like a man!

I don't waste my time bidding on e-bay since it's basically anonymous and the other person, including the seller, could be using scripts or other hacks(as mentioned) to outbid you no matter what you...

Re: Intersting article on Beats Headphones

Just wanted to place my vote for the Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones. I also have Sony, I forget the model # but it's one step up from the 7506, and those are excellent...but the price hiked from...

Re: HELP! I need a good inexpensive snare fast!

There may be better ~$100 snare drums for rock, but I prefer the Acrolite all-around. It's great for jazz!

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

Well, they tried to become more mainstream and "clean" sounding around the time of the black album...but honestly, I don't even bother talking about anything Metallica beyond 1990 or so, it's like...

Re: Intersting article on Beats Headphones

Depends upon what types of goods and services are involved. Improved quality of product can lead to greater market demand. And all of the economic models and market assumptions don't mean much when...

Re: How to get better snare sound ?

Yeah, I would definitely start with a cheap pair of new snare wires and perhaps continue tuning. Is your bottom head choked at all? that will affect your snare buzz and etc, too.

Re: What is your main struggle?

My main struggle will always be eliminating throw-away notes and being very direct, clear, clean.

Re: Steve Gadd is a !@#$% ^&*()

I like playing those types of licks or (mostly) grooves open-handed, much more interesting sounding over the kit. It has taken a while to build up the open-handed paradiddle and double stroke...

Re: Bitter Ginger Baker slating Zeppelin and Bonham - again

Good things to say about....his music? Career? Personal side? Alcoholism is a disease and I doubt it was JB's fault for being that way.

Re: Bass drum triplets - rusty / struggling :(

Not sure if any of this is useful or if I'm mistaken of the topic. What I did was, I took the flam exercises from Chaffee's technique patterns and practiced those religiously, and cycled them. Add...

Re: Bitter Ginger Baker slating Zeppelin and Bonham - again

Two things: his jazz drumming pre-dates his rock drumming, and #2 he says "there is no way John Bonham was near anywhere what I am", which is important because, he is comparing a 20-something Bonham...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I bought an early 00's exc condition Pearl Sexport (10, 12,13,16,22, snare). Got new heads, tuned up and it sounds alright. I don't mind the ISS mounts or whatever they are called either, they work...
