Re: Was I sold a bad snare?

You got a killer deal. It sounds fine! They probably just had it marked down because of the damaged strainer.

Re: When disaster strikes: Your opinion

I have no pets. I have no immediate family in the area. I don't have any key documents, lol. I'd throw some clothes in a bag, take some grub, and beat feet.

BTW, Al, we're already seeing smoke...

Re: Acrylic snare? Any good?

It's purely subjective, of course, but I really liked the 6.5X14 acrylic snare I played. It was loud, bright, full-sounding and very much unlike any of the wood or metal snares I've tried. If I found...

Re: Snare rim-click help

In addition to what Opentune said, make sure the shoulder of the stick isn't contacting the head before the stick hits the rim. In the attached pic, see how the shoulder lays against the head instead...

Re: Chris Squire, Yes Bassist found dead

That's sad news. Those guys were favorites of mine in my formative years.

Re: If you had to choose....

Vinnie would be a goner, mostly because I like more of the music Gadd has played on.

Re: A dumb customer?

"Rentals" are pretty common at any retailer with a generous return policy. Companies striving to get every shred of business have trained consumers that they have no responsibility for their...

Re: 18" bass drum for rock!

I use my Tama kit with 18 bass drum when I host open jams, which are typically rock/country/blues affairs. I also use it for the occasional gig. I, and other musicians I play with, have been...

Re: DW bass drum muffling pillows

Welcome to the world of what I consider a great bass drum sound! I think most people tune too low. Gotta get the head singing a bit - it already has plenty of low frequencies!

Re: Guru snare competition results!

Thanks for the detailed reply, Grea. I liked his hi-hat work in general, too. I enjoyed the way he used it almost as a crash at times, especially supporting that one recurring punch that hits on the...

Re: Help with Dave Grohl lick

Are you talking about the one fill at 1:51 to 1:52?

It's not a triplet, it's 16ths. 3e+a4. RLKK and a flam on 4.

Re: How do you hear it all?

I think I know where you're coming from. Some of those venues with huge monitoring systems have been the worst I've played for hearing what I NEED to hear. Everything just gets muddy. Loud as hell,...

I'd help if I could. I can't quite tell what he's doing. :/

Re: Guru snare competition results!

I liked his performance, too. I'm curious to see if we liked the same parts. Can you give me minute markings on the YouTube vid, please? Or was it the feel of the whole first half?

Re: I'm sorry if I've let anyone down

Funny you should mention the ports on the BD. I have been using primarily unported bass drums tuned Bonham-esque for years now, and I LOVE the sound. But recently I have been jonesing for the sound...

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

Andy, I'm totally ignorant of patent law, but what is to stop someone else from patenting this if you choose not to?

Re: Anyone ever paint a cowbell? or strip one?

Too much work for a <$40 item. I'd just leave it alone and play it.

Re: So should you never bounce doubles?

Yeah, I think all the confusion comes from guys saying you should practice doubles on a pillow, etc etc. Their point is that the two strokes should sound consistent, and if you don't have good...

Re: So should you never bounce doubles?

You should never bounce them in an uncontrolled way, but yes, you can bounce doubles. It's one of the reasons we use doubles.

Re: Hows this for a good ear? Or something

Hard to say, as I don't have the original recording. I have watched videos of them playing it live, though, and they play it in E - in other words, the intro sits on an E chord and open E bass...

Re: Am I nitpicking?

I understand. I didn't mean to be overly critical. I'm an old fart who is used to just taking things straight to the source, so I'm glad to know you talked with Brady right away, and glad that it...

Re: Am I nitpicking?

Personally, I would have talked with the dealer and/or Brady FIRST, before bringing it up on a forum, but that's me. I guess if you weren't sure it was worth bringing up at all, I can see it, but the...
