Re: Having trouble playing with click

"You cannot create experience, you must undergo it."

I started using a click track during live gigs with my band last week. I've used the click for practice through my entire experience as a...

Re: famous drummers that teach?

My buddy takes lessons from Greg Bissonette, $100 per hour. I do some IT consulting on the side and I don't charge my clients this rate =/

Re: What drum/cymbal/piece of gear have you owned the longest?

I have a Zildjian 21" A Rock Ride from 1996 that I got from my aunt who was a firm supporter in what I love doing. I don't use it much these days but it's older than some of my nieces and nephews

Re: A little vent

I know what you're talking about and I've seen bands do this. Unfortunately, they're mostly shitty bands with their heads up their asses. I don't understand this request from the audience. They're...

Re: Pre-recording woes

I got the iphone recordings we did with the new changes just about an hour ago and now I hear where the changes are much clearly now. It's just mind boggling during that moment or so that as we were...

Re: Pre-recording woes

We were about to go with a reputable studio in town who charged almost $1000 per song but then we realized that we'd rather just record a couple of songs every 3-4 months and once we get an album...

Re: Pre-recording woes

Most of the changes weren't really drum-related per se but more rhythmically so that the song was more established and to the point. But yes he was acting as a producer yesterday and gave me all the...

Pre-recording woes

My band is about to record two songs with a local guy who runs a studio. Pretty decent equipment and is giving us a good price. The first song is more of our radio-friendly hit that our audience...

Re: Drummers that overplay

As I'm listening to a record of myself when I was 19...no, I didn't occur to me. I thought by being the loudest and most obnoxious musician in the band would get me the most attention but in reality...

Re: Should I change?

What this guy said. Add that extra tom and see if you like it better. I made the mistake of adding an extra tom for a gig and it nearly threw off my playing. I almost had no idea what to do with the...

Re: Left one of my bands. How would you have handled it?

Holy shit man. Over a disagreement, what was it about?

I told my singer very specifically that it wasn't her or our bass player but it was the style of music that I just wasn't feeling anymore....

Re: Left one of my bands. How would you have handled it?

I should note that I am actually the 3rd drummer of the punk band. She's really apprehensive about discussing the past two drummers, must have been really dramatic departures.

Left one of my bands. How would you have handled it?

For the last couple of months I've been drumming for two bands, a punk band with a female fronted singer and a progressive rock band. I've been with the punk band for over a year and I decided that I...

Re: Seat height

I've also been meddling with the spring tensions of my pedal. After experimenting, I've found that if I have the spring at medium tension I seem to get the most power (fyi I bury the beater like a...

Re: Seat height

Sorry to bump this but any suggestions for drummers below 6ft? Say...5'6"?

At the moment I have my throne set to the lowest height where my thighs are parallel with the ground. Over the weekend I...

When the venue doesn't give your band's set time.

I know it's happened to a bunch of us, but what is everyone's DOs and DON'Ts in a situation when you're trying to get your load-in/set time from the venue?

Story: We were helping a touring band...

Re: Worst mistake you've ever made during a gig ;)

It's guys like Roger Taylor that me feel like a no-talent ass-clown.

Re: I'm just a "feel" drummer so I don't need technique, right?

I spent a year working on technique with my drum teacher. He emphasized the Spivack/Wilson approach to technique and it has definitely paid off, especially when I play rock. I like to think of...

Re: Practice it until it "feels good."

It's great to hear that other drummers achieve this zen-like experience when something not only sounds good but feels good as well.

When I first started learning the songs for my new band I was...

Re: How rare is it to find a band that has a practice space with a kit for you to use? Advice needed

I would say it's pretty rare. A couple of bands I played for had a kit in their rehearsal/livingroom/roommates room because either the drummer moved away and couldn't take the kit or their previous...

Back in my middle/high school years I used to love metal because it served as an outlet from the conformity of traditional private (catholic) school. Everyone was listening to the radio while I was...

Re: Showmanship behind the drums!

As a player I come across the occasional "you make everything look so easy/flawless/flow/etc." after a gig but to me I can careless about showman ship, I incorporate body language with the dynamics...
